Ok so. A game of this scope. Not in terms of content but it's projected 10 year life. But a game of this scope needs a method of making money after its initial sale price. Bungie, activision, these are businesses. They need to turn a profit to keep moving. That's how it is. Now, to make money post release there are three options available that I can think of. 1. Paid monthly subscription ( that ontop of your XBL or psn fee? Yeah, no thanks pal!) 2. Micro transactions. - struggling to get patience and time? Just buy it for $10.... Yeah no thanks, that would break the game and epics and legendary items just won't be epic or legendary anymore.... So the only available option would have been Dlc. Now, all these doco' or trailers we base our arguments off, that the story was spliced may be the blow we have taken to ensure destiny can be the game we all wanted both in terms of its amazingly addictive gameplay as well as a rich story. But the marketing direction taken to make money is probably the best. Don't worry, there's plenty more story to come, while you will need to pay for it, it's no different than halo adding map packs or something of the like. Try and see the bigger picture before we all cry like little children about a situation that we are only partially informed on. Plus, try doing the campaign again... By yourself without friends on a new character. Don't worry about the loot or the level your rival is now.... Don't focus on anything other than the story, as we did before destiny came out. Let it focus on your guardian alone and pay attention to what's happening. You'll realize it's not as content light or short as its being made out to be.

  • Exactly this is my failsafe-thought about what will happen when the DLC comes out.. We might get the story/cutscenes (partially?) shown in trailers.

Bungie have said themselves that the DLC packs are still being put together, still being worked on. If they are not complete how can it be cut from the original game? Maybe the story that was set for launch restricted the way it could expand? Maybe they decided to change something or expand on something that couldn't be completed by release? Who knows? The main point is, regardless of where it was at by launch they still hit the release date regardless, they didn't delay the game and make us all hate them more... That's like, my biggest point. Anyway. While we are confirmed to be missing one particular cutscene from one particular demo/trailer... (which never reflect the completed game "never assume what you see in the trailer/beta represents the final game... things could change". Then we can't throw stones here... it really is kind of weak. This was the idea of destiny, things change, the game will be expanding/ evolving. Something like the story being changed "last minute" would have killed any other game right? But destiny is built this way. If you're getting bored, jump on Miecraft or play another game you paid the same price for and probably played less... Then come back when the weekly's reset or something ya know? By then it'll feel fresh enough people won't need to grab a virtual pitch fork and burning cross to take to the forums.

  • "Bungie have said themselves that the DLC packs are still being put together, still being worked on. If they are not complete how can it be cut from the original game?" You are naïve. I have been to almost all of the DLC spots in the game via glitches. 100% of DLC 1 is done. DLC 2 might as well be done. Only area that I have seen that maybe isn't quite finished is the Terminus. Everything else? Done.

  • You are the naive one if you think those areas were designed to be part of the main game. Many games put DLC content on the main disc to be unlocked later, but it is also left unfinished partially so people won't glitch or hack into the content. NONE of these areas are playable as of yet: no enemies, no pathing, no objectives. Just a map. They add these also pre-designed elements when the DLC releases. It was all designed to be DLC beforehand to put Bungie ahead of schedule, and if this angers you, then you should be angry at pretty much every blockbuster, triple-A developer game of the last several years. Nearly all of them do this. So either deal with it or challenge every game that does this, instead of singling out one particular game.

  • Agree with this post. The points discussed cover my feelings on this topic. Would not want to play monthly sub and hate microtransactions.

  • i'd agree with this as well, if you are levelling up the 3 different characters, doing the raid on normal and hard, doing it multiple times to get all the gear and weapons, doing the daily heroic missions, and the nightfall, that's more than enough replay value until december

  • I agree with the overall sentiment, my beef is with the polish. like look at the character screen that is AWESOME! and some other small things I am a straight up dlc whore I will pay out the nose for more story (I don't care for map packs. more "shadow broker" for mass effect less anything C.O.D) it's just that the overall ui and the characters and everything seems so much more future-y? then what we are currently working with, and i just get a sad face every time. I'm comfortable in the thought that we will eventually get more content. but I doubt that we will likely see a ui update/change anytime sooner then a supposedly upcoming "destiny 2".

  • DLC should never be necessary to make a game complete. An AAA title must be able to stand completely on its own legs on release day. We buy DLC because we think a game was amazing and we want more of it, not because it is needed to patch up the original release.

  • I agree that there could/should have been more in the initial release. I think someone Steve Jobsed the game into something less complex. But it was never meant to be a whole game on day 1. It's a procedural release, we were supposed to get the story and new content over time. The DLC fee is a way of not double dipping too much on top of PS+ or XBL Gold. In the end, it's slightly cheaper than Blizzard's monthly fee. If WoW had been free to play, each patch would have been paid DLC or something along those lines. Yes, WoW had more content on day one, but a lot of it was rehashed fetch or kill quests in every single zone. If you really think about it, a long grind with minimal story would have been DOA on a console. That's not to say that people wouldn't have liked the game, but I think far less would have stayed at it. There are too many fps gamers out there who want an in your face story that distracts you will cool cut scenes and instant gratification. You can see that we had plenty of them freaking out during week one. Imagine if the level cap was 50 and you had to do 30 some odd patrol type quests in each zone between story missions. People would have flipped out.

  • This ^^^^ is truly the best statement. DLC is suppose to further enhance an already top tier standalone AAA title. Not add to it what will undoubtedly feel like content that should have been in it from release.

  • Buddy you can go Blame yourself with that advice. Bottom line is I'm sick of same missions and getting same loot repeatedly. Starting a new character without being able to use my guns and armor I spent days upgrading isn't gonna make me feel better. The cut scenes in this game make me cringe, just a never ending reminder of how disappointed I am.

Well the problem is that Ps4 is still pretty new and I got it pretty much right after my Xbox broke. I invested a lot of time and money into my system because I believed that destiny could be like what halo was for me in the past. Destiny is just a small part of the big picture, I don't plan on buying a 500 dollar system just to exclusively play one game. At the time I don't have much money to spend on other games and socially all my friends play this game so if I wanna play with my friends this is where I go. The thing that's got me coming to forums and explaining my frustrations is that the game simply doesn't have to be so bad. I genuinely love the vault of glass, its fun and challenging not just because it takes a lot of devotion and time but because it takes co-operation and communication skills that most games don't implement. Other games most players run off and do their own thing but in the vault you got get your happy shit together and work as a team. Plus its a game I can play with more then two of my friends at the same time! Holy shit who'da thought in this day'n age I could play with more then two friends at a time. I don't understand why I can play in lobby with six or seven people shooting into a cave doing nothing to be involved in my story mission or be apart of my strike. Is that whats supposed to happen? Nobody talks to one another and players have to go to a third party website to find people to play with. I can't speak for everyone but having random players inhabit my game hasn't enhanced my experience in anyway. Maybe its interesting and fun for some players but to me its a waste of resources and I'd much rather have the option to play with four or five friends on patrol missions. Another huge bone I have to pick its the rewards. This system is by all means broken. People can get whats considered the best rewards just by joining a lobby and knocking Atheon off the edge. Now yes there fixing that bug but that's not my problem. My issue is that people are ruining their experience on what's in my opinion the best part of the game on purpose because of a broken reward system. People who are perfectly capable of beating Atheon and playing through the vault aren't going to bother putting all of the time and work just to get shafted for a reward. I want to play the game to have fun not just to get a reward, but I enjoy games that give me fulfillment. I wanna play games that make me feel good about the 6 or 7 hours I put into a hard mode VoG run. I want the developers to feel my pain when I'm disappointed so that they can try harder to please their customers. We are their customers and we are the reason they make money, so why not voice my option when I have a problem. They couldn't have anticipated every little problem people were going to have so why shouldn't people complain so they can know what needs to be fixed to improve the game for future customers. Its in their best interest to understand peoples problems with their game if they want to continue making money.
