Watched it, but hardly "evidence." These are conspiracy theories over a product that was in development at the time the videos were developed – which is just dumb.

  • Yes, because the game we are currently playing feels finished, with its amazing story and lore, new and playable areas, interactive community and with its "earned" items....sarcasm doesn't go over well via keyboard but im sure you picked up on it.

  • Alternatively: Bungie delivered a product they genuinely thought was good, only to be met with feedback stating otherwise. Its the simplest answer.

  • Their a lots of reasons for this, the main one being that the story is supposed unravel through the DLC. I'm not saying I support it at all, just simply stating that there are countless reasons for that.

  • People don't spend money to just "dump" things. Imagine the time and effort that went into rendering those saturn shots or the Reef playable area.

  • That is the exact same argument I present as to why empty maps are on the disk as an asset and not a money grab, and I get flamed into oblivion. And yes, games get cancelled, all the time - with the code and assets relegated to some backup drive that is locked in a filing cabinet and forgotten about.

  • They dump entire games after spending lots of money on them. They're constantly dumping game content that's already completed (speaking as a games industry professional of 10 years). The Saturn shots are just there to look pretty and were probably done very, very early on in development.

  • This game did cost 500 million, so now I know where all the money went, having content developed and then trashed....

  •
This game did cost 500 million, so now I know where all the money went
You don't know what you're talking about. $500,000,000 for marketing over 10 years. Nothing to do with development.

Nevermind the cost of servers world-wide, promotional material, etc...

  • Well here's my question for the guys in the industry: Is it normal/common for content to be cut in the last year and a whole new story line created (if the reddit post is correct)? Because the game that was presented to us does not feel the same as the game I purchased. FYI, I like the game, I've been playing a lot but I'm getting to a point where the repetitiveness is wearing on me.

Also, ever play KOTOR 2...?

  • sorry you got ignored wheeze, the article you posted might sum up a lot of what people are trying to figure out: "As work on a sequel began, the team started thinking about where it wanted to go next with its newly created franchise - and, perhaps more importantly, where it hadn't been able to go with Halo: Combat Evolved. "Your initial goals with a sequel are always the same," says Griesemer, "to finish all the stuff you had to cut from the first game. And we had to cut a lot from Halo 1, so we had a lot of ideas we were ready to move on."" They had to cut a lot from Halo, so dont be too surprised that they cut a lot of stuff from Destiny. I dont think anything was re-written, just left out.

  • Weighted question. Two answers: 1: It is uncommon for a script to be completely scrapped once principle photography/production has begun, but it has been done. 2: The theory that Destiny's story was completely changed is a conspiracy theory that has been denied by Bungie, which in turn fuels the nutjobs (who are of the same ilk as those who think the Moon landing was faked and 9/11 was an inside job).

  • Terrible comparison. The idea that Destiny's story was completely changed is not a conspiracy, it is the dominant theory. Just look at the story. It is there for everyone to see.

  • It is why I have coined the phrase "Destiny Truthers". Just waiting for it to catch on, so I can watch the money start to roll in, with the plan of being able to quit my profession and play games all day long, like I did when I was a teenager. ;-)

That's funny. I work in the film industry. So yes, I do. A fully rendered VFX clip costs 10's of thousands based on time. So I can imagine that the Video Game industry would have similar costs. Especially for completed content like this. The cutting room floor on a reel is nothing compared to VFX shots we pay for and don't use. More often then not they are the last thing to go because of the cost. $$ of film in 2014 is trumped by the price of VFX shots. Don't talk out of your ass.

You're right about one thing: you're a stranger on the Internet. You can't prove anything about your personal experience without compromising your personal security. However, based on what you've said, you do not come across as one with extensive experience as a film maker nor as someone familiar with the entertainment industry as a whole. Development for entertainment is a process. Many thousand-dollar ideas can be developed but later scrapped and left on the cutting room floor. This loss is often accounted for in the budget of a product because it happens with great frequency. In terms of Destiny, or any video game, many things can be developed into full-rendered 3D models and environments but never used in the final product nor future content. Things seen in promotional material prior to launch may not represent the final product – this is true for movies, video games, and other entertainment media. If you do work in the entertainment industry, you would know this comes with the territory. Because of your response, I am disinclined to believe your statement and credit your previous comments as conjecture.
