I love the links between Bungie games. Though I have to stop and wonder sometimes, if they aren't clever homages, but rather Bungie remaking their own universe over and over. As far as I'm concerned, the security officer has the protagonist from PID, built into a mjolnir cyborg, who is of course logically master chief, who is lost at the end of halo 3 and reborn a guardian. Don't forget, Bungie plots are full of vague references, time travel and dimensional anomalies. Which makes about anything possible. Sadly, I never really got into Myth, as I wasn't a big rts fan. PS: Marathon infinity, like Halo 4, is technically not canon. Since both games weren't actually made by Bungie (in my opinion anyway).

  • What you said about Bungie remaking its own material over and over again... Take a minute to ponder the name 'Bungie'...

I may be incorrect, but Marathon: Infinity was published and developed by Bungie. Making Infinity canon. Halo 4 is rubbish and not canon.

  • It was overseen and approved by Bungie, but double aught wrote the rest of the story, made all the new maps and textures. As far as I recall, double aught had some of the Durandal team with them. I'm bummed that they never finished Duality.

Well, I think they let Double Aught run with it, but they released the Forge and Anvil system with Infinity. I know Double Aught did all the maps and levels, didn't know they did the story. But if you look at the box, the Publisher AND Developer are Bungie. IMO Bungie wouldn't put their name on both sections if they didn't AT LEAST feel it followed their logic and storyline.

  • Hrm, I had recalled that it was mostly double aught. The internet isn't being forthcoming and I'm going on what I remember from the mid '90s (on the official site and the various fan pages). From what I can tell, the story was Bungie's and double aught made the game. Though given that double aught was pretty much the people behind marathon 1&2, except Alex and Jason, it's hard to really call double aught a separate company from Bungie at the time of MI. If I go by what Wikipedia and pfhorpedia says, Marathon Infinity was more or less a separate story from M1&2, which didn't affect the outcome of M2. I remember it all getting very convoluted and I had a hard time figuring out what was going on in MI at the time. But yes, I would say that the entity in MI, is very likely the inspiration for the darkness, or as close a relative as your going to find in Bungie lore. My initial thought when I started MI, was that it was related to the ancient god inside the pyramid in PID. That's pretty wild speculation on my part though.

  • Well I just had the same feeling from playing MI that I did playing the other games. And doing some research (albeit the internet) it seems like they were all one company until right at the end of MI.
