Agree with the original post. Fail-safes should be in the game for this kind of thing. For the people that are blaming him...he's already blaming himself, so I don't get why you're piling on. He's just asking for a simple fix that's already implemented for exotic gear (meaning Bungie at least half recognized the risks upon release of the game) be added for engrams. A totally reasonable and hopefully easily implemented request that we will see in the near future. I, for one, am always terrified I'll make this very mistake when dealing with engrams. A fail-safe would be nice.

  • A 'fix' is not needed. The 'fail safe' is knowing what you are doing and being aware.

  • That's just an elitist attitude from someone who doesn't care about other people. The fact that it's already in for the weapons/armor indicates they just whiffed on the engrams. Just be nice. No reason to ridicule.

That's not an elitist attitude at all. It's called being responsible. I know better than to play a game in which I am barely coherent or aware of my actions. OP has no one to blame but himself - which he does - and that's fine. But the game does NOT need something that holds you hand. Being cognizant of your actions..that's the fail safe.

  • It doesn't NEED it, but it would be cool to help their customers with this problem that they are having. It's about customer service. Not being a douche bag

  • So do you 'NEED' warning labels on everything to ensure you don't hurt yourself? It's a waste of time, energy, and money to add this. And I don't want to be navigating needless prompts that do nothing more than to confirm that I know what I'm doing.

  • You don't NEED any of it. But if you want to keep customers happy then you want to appease them. You can have customers lose items from accidental deletions or you can help them by adding a confirmation to avoid those issues. Upset customer or happy customer? What would you want if you ran a business? I don't know of to many games that don't have a confirmation on quality items.

You can throw a full minute long dismantle time onto it AND include multiple prompts and people will STILL dismantle things they actually want to keep because they aren't paying attention to what they are doing. That is the real culprit of this complaint and feature request... "I wasn't paying attention for one reason or another and I inadvertently dismantled the wrong item. It's your fault Bungie for not stopping me from doing this to myself!" How many prompts must I go through because someone, somewhere, doesn't take the time to ensure he is dismantling the correct item? It takes all of 2 seconds to verify you are dismantling the correct item. And the "confirmation" you so desire is there...it's the progress bar that only appears once hold down the correct button; and takes more than enough time to complete to give you a chance to rethink your decision.

You can't fix people paying attention You can fix a damn confirmation. Don't be ridiculous.... And I don't desire anything, I could care less I they added a confirmation. Would I like it? Sure, but when I dismantled my engram on accident I didn't bitch or care. Because I had more motes and only wanted it to dismantle for a few shards...

And what i'm saying, is even WITH 'confirmations' via prompts or the like, people will still manage to not pay attention because they are expecting a system or someone else to hold their hand and protect them from making a bad choice..or the wrong choice. Even with a prompt, people will still blindly hit the "ok" button, dismantling a piece of gear, and it be a mistake. Why even bother with altering code, which takes more time and money, to incorporate a system that will just be ignored due to people...not paying attention anyways..who will then come back to the forums and complain that even more should be done to further protect people from themselves when all they need to do is be aware and cognizant of their actions.

  • I know I wouldn't have done it if it had a confirmation. Yeah It was my fault. Was I mad? No. Did I come here saying they need to add it? No. But I would have been happy the confirmation was there. when it comes to CUSTOMER SERVICE, I would have liked this feature. Guess what? They are selling this item to people!! They will want to appease customers. So I BET it will be implemented just like WOW did there's.

  • I know I've not done it before..without a flashy confirmation..because I pay attention to what I'm doing. Perhaps, you and others should do the same. This is not 'customer service' - this is someone being upset they made a mistake and pointing the finger and demanding something be done to prevent them from making a mistake, by not paying attention to what they were doing...when they should be more aware.

  • You dumbass, anything to make a customer happy is customer service. If you ran a business you'd be a broke ass mofo. This is a ridiculous argument. Have a good one.

At some point, the customer has their own responsibilities and things to be accountable of. A business shouldn't protect people from themselves when the item they would be 'protecting' is on the customer's end, not the business. Toodles!

  • It is, you just don't know it. It's cool though. To each their own. This change will eventually be implemented, and it will have no impact whatsoever to your gaming experience due to your flawlessness. For the people that make mistakes from time to time, it will enhance their enjoyment of the game. It will turn a potential negative into a blip on the radar, as it didn't impact their gaming experience negatively since the fail-safe worked as intended.

Or...the person should be better aware of what they are doing...and in so doing, save programmers time and money by focusing on items that would be better suited to be added to the game. edit: And actually, it would impact me. It means I would have to slog through new menus and prompts to let the game know that, yes, I do want to dismantle this item, or that item, when said menus and prompts are not needed.
