What faction do you push? And why?

Hi, I am running between the factions and trying to get an idea, what faction I should push, but I just can't get it. There are obviously three "free" factions who do offer different stat combinations and it depends on your style of gaming, which one you want to join (New Monarchy - Intellect&Strength, Future War Cult - Intellect&Discipline and Dead Orbit - Discipline&Strength). Then there is the Vanguard and the Crucible. Obviously its PvE or PvP. BUT... the free factions and the other two don't make a huge difference, e. g. FCW has a helmet 48INT + 44 DISC, Vanguard has a helmet 41INT + 51 DISC and Crucible has a helmet 43INT + 49 DISC. So what's the deal with those? Do those point differences of 5 points in one or another direction make a difference? I always thought I will do INT and DIS, since I want fast Radiance and fast grenades, but now I realized I really do melee A LOT, so I need that strength, which concludes to STR and INT for me, which is either New Monarchy, Vanguard or Crucible. I like PvP, so it's Crucible or New Monarchy and at this point, I have no idea. I have the feeling, the Crucible offers more choice, so why should I do New Monarchy anyway, besides I really do not like the look of the faction represant. I wanna build a sunsinger with focus on Radiance and Scorch. What do you push? And why?

  • Here's my thoughts. And they're based somewhat around a mixed play style. (Sorry it's fairly long) For starters it's not really PVE/PVP with vanguard being the only PVE group. Factions grow reputation from both vanguard and crucible rep. This is nice because if you play a mix of both it won't be splitting your rep between 2 groups. On the other hand you purchase from factions with crucible marks, so you'll either have to fight, or with resource trading you can get marks without ever going in the crucible. (I noticed some writing factions off for this, figured id point it out) Here's the things I tried to weigh out: ARMOR: -Leveling- you need light to level up. You'll spend a while at 24 if you don't start getting legendary gear. So unless you get a reputation to level 2 somewhere you're waiting for random drops. I found leveling a faction to be faster because I play half vanguard half crucible. -Weapon Boosts- see what gear is supported within the faction. I liked the multiple pieces that supported hand cannons from Dead orbit. -Attributes- power, intelligence, strength. What do you care for the most -Aesthetics- so functionally this doesn't matter, but it might sway you in the end. WEAPONS: -Types Offered-does the faction you're looking into have weapons you want? It seems almost deliberate that dead orbit had the most weapon boosts for the hand cannon, but none to buy, so this tip may contradict other factors. Vanguard and crucible have every weapon type to choose from (I think? Maybe even 2 of each type?) so I recommend considering if you should prioritize VG/C over a faction first. Maybe look into what people consider the best legendary of your favorite primary weapon and special weapon. If you REALLY like the perks and weapon features that might be your end goal and motivation for choosing a specific group. Personally I did dead orbit to lvl 3 (figured auto rifle and a decent shotgun would help pvp, plus great armor for me), now I'm finishing Vanguard to get the weapon variety and anytime I do Crucible I put on FWC because I want their stuff next. In the meantime you may buy xur's weapons/armor if you have strange coins or receive exotic bounties for even better stuff.
