90% of players don't know how to play control

It's really sad how many of you out there think the game type CONTROL involves running around the map constantly trying to retake captured points. It really makes me wonder. Every time I see it I think about how one time I gave my dog three tennis balls and it wanted all three at once... It just didn't know its own limits. The point of this game type is to capture and DEFEND as many points as you can with a team of six. Since there is no public chat teamwork can be a difficult thing with randoms so you may have to pay attention to your teammates for just a couple seconds to see what the best strategy might be. As in; if you see your entire team trying to hold A and B don't try and take the other point by yourself... Even if you manage to take it, you're going to flip the spawn and give them the chance to get a jump on the rest of your team. Also don't forget that kills matter!! You can boost the points of your team by killing enemies but try to do it by either taking or defending a control point. Running to a moot area won't help your team as much as if you hold down B. I'm just trying to help all you noobs out there. Try and use a bit if strategy when you play and it will pay off. Any other useful tips for control are more than welcome Edit: a whole bunch of people are pointing out that you also need to kill people to win. I didn't really think that needed to be said since its so obvious but yea the determining factor of the game type is kills Edit 2: the point system for control is 75 points for each flag cap, plus 75 additional points for every member in the control point. 25 points for neutralizing an enemy flag. 100 points for a standard kill plus an additional 50 for each flag held by your team on the kill Edit:3 If the heavy ammo drops and you have friendly's in the area, wait a couple seconds for them to gather around (if you think it's safe to do so(don't wait too long)) to collect the ammo. More firepower on your team can help you take a flag or two and rack up some kills.

      • Many think the scoring is like CoD Domination where the bases you control causes a "tick" in points. Control is a multiplier. Many do not get that. 2 bases = 2x the points per kill. Capture 2 bases and defend them. Solo capping is bad. You get 75 points for doing so. If you gave 4 capping = 300 points. Add in the fact with 4 should should kill a few trying to defend.

      • This. For the love of god people, its called CONTROL not DOMINATION. If your by any chance on PS4 and in EU, add me dude. I win the majority of my games. and *whispers* (you can win games with headless chicken teammates by "capturing" spawn points for your team, ie. blind watch, shores of time). 1. Take the spawn. 2. Get your teammates spawning there. 3. ........ 4. Profit. aka WIN!!!! PSN same as username.

      • I hate it. I always have at least 5 to 10 captures in a game when half the other guys on my team have maybe 3. I don't think many people realize how the point system works.

          • A lot of folks with control issues... I have to admit I popped in due to the control bounty... and I've been used to mop the floor since. First time in is great... no idea where anything is, everybody one-shots you, and everybody is running so you feel like you'd better go somewhere and do something. Anyway, glad to have found this thread... maybe I can eventually get less bad.

          • The bounty for capturing 10 zones conflicts with the strategy. Players will just run around in circles capturing points since no defense is needed.

I love when idiots make threads that sound as if they are the saviors of the common man bringing enlightenment. When actuality they are simply butthurt that they got stuck with a bad team or went up against a good team. You are not a bringer of knowledge, you are simply repeating something that has already been said.

            • People think you get more points over time for having territories. That's FALSE. You get points for capping a territory and that is minimal. 85-90% of your points come from kills, and you get more points from kills if you control more territories. You also get bonuses from killing someone near your territory (defending). I agree with you 100%, not a lot of people understand the gametype. They just see that 3rd territory and get greedy not realizing the consequences.

            • It's the other way around for me. Our team has the better K/D Ratio at the end but we lose the game because my team only goes for kills and doesn't give a shit about holding flags.

              • When I play Control with my Clan or Clan Alliance Members we cap two flags and we hold them for the rest of the match. If we sense the other team is crap which in most cases they usually are we will triple cap them and punish them hard. More often than not this leaves to them rage quitting because they are unable to work as a team.

                • This is a great assessment of how people playing in the Iron Banner like to play control. Seriously, when it's a close game and some jerk decides he's going rougue and charges into a group of enemies like he's superman... don't be surprised because you lost the game for your team.

                  • What also frustrates me are the players that neutralise a point then f-off, or worse, run straight by it without thinking about the extra points their next kill could net themselves and the team....

I can't really say kills are that important. I once got 2nd place with only 5 or 6 kills but had over 5000 points from taking zones back.

                    • Defending a capture point yields less overall points because you must wait for the enemy to come to you and you get less cap exp. But I do agree that defending is more strategic and will net much more wins. In iron banner I normally defend to get wins. In crucible I just try to point whore.

                    • its control, all you have to do is control the flow of the game, take the best two points in the map, then kick the other teams ass as they come for you, you have more points per kill, you know where there spawning, chances are your team will have more supers ready fo when they rush a point to cap (and they will) if you just want a tdm go play that (unless your in it for iron banner then your out of luck) times ive lost games are when playing solo and 4 or more randoms will go cap there flag and lose the two we held is insane

                    • Another big annoyance is when at least half your team sits in one control zone. Granted, you cap it a bit faster, but when the other team is getting one of your zones (like B), you could be running over there to defend it. We don't need the whole team on one damn zone.
