New Classes?

A common criticism of Destiny has been that the classes are all too "similar". All classes can wield the similar guns, have similar stats and similar perks. This leads to PvE that never allows the identity of your character to shine. However after starting a new Titan character and moving away from my trusted Warlock, I have to say that the subtle differences seem to make a definitive change to the way I play the game. I'm not sure if this is just my perception or a well thought out class talent tree. The sub classes do seem to fit into broad established classes normally seen in MMO's : Titan/Striker - DPS (melee) Titan/Defender - Tank/Support Warlock/Voidwalker - DPS (ranged) Warlock/Sunslinger - Support Hunter/Gunslinger - DPS (ranged) Hunter/Blade Dancer - DPS (melee) Whilst this list is by no means definitive and dependent on the individuals play styles, it still made me wonder what classes would the community like to see? [b][u]Barbarian (Dedicated Tank)[/u] [/b]- This class could pull/agro enemies of allies and deal more damage the more enemies they took on. [b][u]Cleric/Bard (Dedicated Medic)[/u][/b] - This class would focus on supporting allies using grenades and powers to heal, reduce cool downs, allow more orbs to be created and buff enemies up. [b][u]Illusionist (Dedicated to Support)[/u][/b] - The class would concentrate on reducing buffing down enemies, helping to slow them down, poison, blind, freeze, burn or blocking enemy actions. What does everyone think? Would new classes be a good idea or would they be game breaking? If you want a new class which one would you like to see?

  • Healing and tanking in this game aren't quite a thing. -Aggro is dodgy and can barely be controlled in an average fight -Most enemies die too fast for aggro to matter Also I don't know why people are saying the classes feel the same. My Sunsinger feels a shitload different to my Voidwalker. And this thread is full of suggestions for classes that are severely similar to existing ones.

    • I think you need to break away from the "MMO trinity" since that's not what the sub-classes are based around. The Sub-classes are based around the elemental damages. The third ones will be Titan around Solar, Hunter around Void, and Warlock around Arc.

      • I think I would enjoy playing a trapper, a hunter that drops different area - control style mines or tripwires and can stealth more reliably. Has things like bind, stun, blind or poison. Would synergize well with thorn and other Dot weapons.

        I feel that the Titan is just a support class over all. I mean, it's got a grenade that has CC in the Striker subclass.

      • I really say I like the idea of a shaman like subclass for the warlock I personally don't play them but would if they had one. I mean an arc subclass that used its grenades for a initial dmg spike and then a sort of totem with a specific buff depending on the grenade.Their super would allow for multiple grenades like the current sunslinger class but without the res and with instead has specific buffs like movement speeds or reload speeds or regenerating ammo for the group. the grenades wouldn't disappear but instead stay for a limited amount of time and buff the area affected. Just an idea but

        Barbarian would make defenders useless.. Cleric is a good idea for warlock however I can imagine it'd take a high skill level to use (Don't miss your nades, timing etc etc) illusionist would fall under warlock as well I like that idea too. I'd like a beserker class for the titan, I know titans are a melee dps however say if you had a class who literally only used their fists, duel wield fists kinda. That'd be cool xD.

          I can top that: Titan: "Solarknight" (Heavy DPS; can revive) - makes Titans more useful. - gives them the damage they are missing. Hunter: "Shadowstalker" (Minimal DPS; stealth) - gives hunters ability to go stealth while not in combat; effect lasts until in proximity or firing weapon. - gives a class that isn't focussed on heavy DPS. Warlock: "Thunderward" (Support/Tank) - gives warlocks a chance to become partially a Titan. - focussed mainly on supporting the team rather than self; similar to Striker.

          • I like the idea of debuffs. I know the titan class has a flashbang thats sort of a debuff, but i think a grenade specialist class could be really cool. Where different grenades do different things such as blind, slow, bind, weaken. Maybe a trapper class that sets down mines or boobie traps that have effects too like DOTs, straight damage. Also some new movment options would be cool, we have jump x1 x2 x3 and blink jump. What about having a dash that moved you in a straight line really quickly to get you out of danger, or a sidestep like the vandals use. I realize most of this would cause balancing issues but its mostly to get people thinking about new ideas.

              • Good ideas! I agree even though the classes have lots of similarities, the subtleties really set them apart. Weapons are the same IMO.

                • I like your ideas but, Bungie has specifically said they do not want to go towards the traditional tank, Healer, DPS setup. On the other hand...since this is hypothetical. I would have fun with a class that could summon minions ( This is warlockish but sounds cool )of some sort. Or a class that can slow down and debuff bosses while buffing the group ( Shaman like ) I think the Shaman would be more likely to happen over all suggested classes.
