Hi all, Which primary weapon do you primarily use; and why? I am debating which primary should I use and I would very much like some of your opinions and suggestions to help me to decide. I very much like the scout rifle for it has good impact, which interrupts the targets, and good damage. Also I always aim for a head shot (or a belly shot against the Vex). So I have grown fond of the scout rifle since I started playing. I also like the hand cannon too; except for its relatively small cartridge size painfully long reloading speed. I have tried to really like it and use it but I have always ended falling back to the scout rifle. The pulse rifle is a good choice too although I do not use it that often. I feel that it is not as easy to use as the auto rifle and not as impactful as the scout rifle and the hand cannon. I however have to say that the pulse is very good at one thing: scoring headshot. First you aim at the chest just below the neck, which is larger and easier to aim than the head, then the recoil will move the muzzle up and you will hit the head. Lately, I have done some PvP matches and some team PvE. I have noticed that a lot of people are using the auto rifle. I would say nearly a majority of them. For me, I just cannot get used to the constant recoil and the constant adjusting of aim. I understand its appeal and it also manages to score a lot of team kills too. With the auto rifle, you can start aiming at the general direction before moving into a more precise aiming, and thus almost always hits something. WIth the scout rifle and the hand cannon, you have to aim first before firing, and then reengage when necessary and fire again. In PvE teaming, it annoys me to see that my kill counts are lower than a auto rifle user but I believe I deal more or less the same amount of damage; just that my bullets hit fewer targets. So anyway, what do you use? Please share your views on the primary weapons. Thanks!

  • Pulse Rifles are my cheddar. They fall neatly into the space between "full on CQB" Auto Rifles and "midrange dominance" Scout Rifles, offering some of the benefits of each with a few manageable flaws. Most Pulse Rifles have relatively small magazines - the number of rounds is high, but since they're used 3 at a time, it's generally around 7 to 10 shots per mag. However, several nice Pulse Rifles have the Field Scout option, which increases both magazine size and reserve rounds. This option is very worthy of consideration when it's available. I'm currently using a FWC Pulse Rifle called The Conduit, which has good ROF but low Impact; with Field Scout, it fires 14 bursts before reload (and it reloads fairly quickly even without booster gauntlets). Choosing options to boost Range and Stability with Pulse Rifles is also generally a good idea. PRs don't enjoy the range of Scouts (though some get surprisingly close, especially with perks), and the quick volley of 3 shots does make the barrel climb a little. Upgrading either will give you a weapon which can compare with low-end Scouts for range while still getting consistent crits with good aim. A good-ROF PR will also potentially best a Scout for DPS, if you can hold your targets. Some Pulse Rifles also come with a Full Auto option. I don't actually need this (tapping the trigger is easy enough) and recommend you pass it over in favor of more useful perks if it's in a stack. If it's a single affix, just take it; holding the trigger is one less thing to worry about in a hot firefight. But it's not mandatory for PRs to shine. In general, PRs give a versatile, mid/high-DPS short-midrange option that has snappier handling (faster swap and ADS) than Scouts, and faster reload than Hand Cannons. Autos and Hand Cannons are more potent with the right skill set, but PRs are great tools for people who aren't super skilled at shooters (like me). For this reason, they're my runaway favorite.
