Which Primary Weapon Do You Use?

Hi all, Which primary weapon do you primarily use; and why? I am debating which primary should I use and I would very much like some of your opinions and suggestions to help me to decide. I very much like the scout rifle for it has good impact, which interrupts the targets, and good damage. Also I always aim for a head shot (or a belly shot against the Vex). So I have grown fond of the scout rifle since I started playing. I also like the hand cannon too; except for its relatively small cartridge size painfully long reloading speed. I have tried to really like it and use it but I have always ended falling back to the scout rifle. The pulse rifle is a good choice too although I do not use it that often. I feel that it is not as easy to use as the auto rifle and not as impactful as the scout rifle and the hand cannon. I however have to say that the pulse is very good at one thing: scoring headshot. First you aim at the chest just below the neck, which is larger and easier to aim than the head, then the recoil will move the muzzle up and you will hit the head. Lately, I have done some PvP matches and some team PvE. I have noticed that a lot of people are using the auto rifle. I would say nearly a majority of them. For me, I just cannot get used to the constant recoil and the constant adjusting of aim. I understand its appeal and it also manages to score a lot of team kills too. With the auto rifle, you can start aiming at the general direction before moving into a more precise aiming, and thus almost always hits something. WIth the scout rifle and the hand cannon, you have to aim first before firing, and then reengage when necessary and fire again. In PvE teaming, it annoys me to see that my kill counts are lower than a auto rifle user but I believe I deal more or less the same amount of damage; just that my bullets hit fewer targets. So anyway, what do you use? Please share your views on the primary weapons. Thanks!

  • This community sickens me (sarcasm)! Look at all the people who prefer the auto rifle! Learn how to aim for the head guys. AR's are for nublets (in pvp).

    • At the level your at you can't beat the Shingin E auto it has very-no recoil high rate of fire, and good range, most accurate AR out there. When you get to legendry the vanquisher AR from New Monarchy is personally my favourite, best all rounder and very good in PVP. But to be honest you have to give all the types a go, and go with what suits your skill level. The more accurate you are the better

I prefer the hand cannon for this reason. A good hand cannon at higher lvls will kill with one shot and depending on the gun perks you can grab headshots at fairly decent range. The scout rifle does not work well for me at close range. The hand cannon while it has limited clip size still kills with 1-2 hits to the chest. However I still prefer the auto rifle and shotgun (secondary) for close engagement. I tend to use auto rifles for the Vex because they spawn on top of you and can close distance quickly putting them up in your grill before you can thin them out. I use hand cannons for just about anything else. Only time I use scout rifles is if I'm popping heads at low lvl in cosmodrome for prescision bounties. I can just get up high and kill everything in sight and wait for respawns. This only works however if there is a huge level disparity otherwise the scout is just not powerful enough for quick kills at same level. I don't like pulse rifles because you never get the whole burst as a headshot. I usually end up having to fire 2-3 bursts to get the same effect can get with just one pull. The hand cannon is also has double action and you can gently squeeze the trigger and prime the shot. Squeeze the analog trigger half way and watch the hammer. If you practice you can get it to sit just just right. Making the pull smoother instead of jerking on the trigger. The analog works this way for most of the guns but it feels much more noticeable to me with hand cannons. My 2 cents. Well more like $1.99 :)

      • I prefer to use a pulse rifle but my auto rifle is better. If RNGesus would bestow upon me a decent pulse rifle, I would use that.

        • I use hand cannons and pulse rifles that have high rof and stability and ones that can be fired auto. I use a rare pulse rifle in crucible called a Suros JP something something.. its like a long range accurate auto rifle because it can fire full auto, and has a way faster rate of fire than my Fair and Square legendary pulse rifle..

        • I'm a precision damage kinda guy myself, so, in whatever DLC this exotic is released, I'm actually going to be using the No Man Sky, a primary sniper rifle from the looks of it.

        • I usually use my Suros (which I've fully upgraded), but since I got the New Monarchy hand cannon from an engram, I've been using that.

Got the Venation III 2 days ago from hitting Dead Orbit rank 3. Haven't been able to stop using it since.

        • I keep an auto rifle and a pulse rifle with me. I prefer pulse rifles for the headshots in PvE and in PvP. But the auto rifle is great for targets with big crit areas, like walkers, or when I'm just goofing off with friends and can't be bothered to aim. I usually end up burst firing the auto rifle most of the time.

        • Personally I go with my trusty pulse rifle on every mode but Crucible, I find I really enjoy the precision bursts, it feels comfy and easy to manage quick criticals, and though it isn't the most popular primary and generally gets a lot of hate I manage to top the kills list in nearly every strike, story, raid I play. That said if you enjoy any type of weapon I say you should use it regardless, pick the primary that you enjoy the most, because at the end of the day it's all about what you have the most fun learning and using, anything can be good in the right hands! Auto rifles are popular as some types are just a bit more effective than most other weapons at most ranges, such as the scout which is going to be buffed soon, meanwhile your autos will be getting a damage/ranged stability nerf. If you enjoy the scout don't give up on it, you can be just as effective as anyone with an auto in PvE (PvP may be a bit different) with enough practice (go for constant criticals, something autos can't always do as easily especially at range) if you're itching for a change though my vote would be Pulse Rifles :D
