exotic bounties and making people play crucible to complete them
yes, while this OP is specifically about the thorn, its the fact that it was the first exotic bounty i got, and the gun i wanted. if it had been the bad juju i was after, this post would still exist, but the example, or specific situation would be about that gun instead,
my argument is mainly around the concept if forcing players into the crucible (or visa versa) for content. no other MMO style game does this. and as long as this concept exists, i'll always fight against it.
i have completed this bounty btw.
dont care what CoD fan -blam!-wits troll about this. this is still the worst thing about destiny. having an exotic that requires someone to go somewhere where they dont like because A) not good enough, and B) too many -blam!-y CoD fan boys is -blam!-ing moronic.
i tried tonight and with a controller im just not cut out to do it. i'd get 5 points if im lucky in a round, and lose it all the next.
worst -blam!-ing decision ever bungie. totally, utterly, and completely moronic. who ever created these bounties needs a kick in the -blam!-ing balls, several times, with a 50 meter run up.
EDIT: ok. while i till maintain my position that forcing someone to do this is a monumentally bad idea, and flawed in every conceivable way, the main problem i have with this part of that bounty (the one for the hand cannon), is that you lose 2 points on death. for those players of destiny that cannot compete well enough in the crucible to maintain a semi decent k:d ratio, this negative means that this bounty is not doable.
and the extended problem is that with this "mechanic", bungie can say that you cannot complete certain story missions without involving the crucible. which will mean that people wont be able to complete the story if they cannot maintain a semi decent k:d ratio. this scares me.
EDIT#2: possible fixes
1-remove the negative and either A) increase the points cap needed, or B) reduce the points per kill
2-have options for people to choose either crucible or non crucible content for specific stage.
3- remove the void requirement
4- make a map that will let me play any style instead of charging around like a halo/cod boffin. Let me climb and hide in corners, let me snipe and displace. The current maps do not allow this.

Don't want to PvP, don't do the bounties. If you're after Thorn, buy a machine gun with void damage, play control, find a zone where heavy ammo drops nearby, and play defense.

Look the pvp system in this game is pretty crappy at best. With that being said they do this to get people involved in crucibles. Honestly most of the exotic weapons from these bounties are pure crap anyway. I have bad juju, pocket infinity, super good advice and they all do not feel very exotic.

At first I thought, if you can't win in crucible than you don't deserve the gun. I have changed my stance on it since. Only for thw the thorn, to lose progress sucks. I understand they shouldn't be easy but exotics are not really that difficult to acquire. If Xur can sell almost anything, might as well do away with losing progress

I'm guessing ur doing the thorn bounty, what I did was go into combined arms with a sniper rifle and just camp in the back

You get 5 points for a kill 1 point for an assist and -2 points for a death. With a shotgun and a RL it only took a few games to get this done. If you have antheons just sit back and get assist an then always get the heavy ammo.....heck if your titan or Warlock you have specials that do void dmg increasing you ability to gain points... Personally if you cant handle PVP then maybe you just cant handle that exotic weapon? That or make the PVE challenge actually difficult...like complete the VOG with 0 deaths/wipes on hard mode within a 2 hour time frame.

Were dont want to hear "oh its because of them" or "these guys running around with shotguns, and fusion rifles... And hand cannons... And scout rifles.. And assault rifles.. And rocket launchers." Lmao you guys might as well take away all guns and abalities. Some player are more well roundly skilled than others... And by the looks of it, much more skilled

2 RepliesThis game is not made so that anyone who picks it can get the best items. For some stuff you have to be skilled enough to diserve them. And sadly, pvp is part of what's needed to get these items. Get better or worry about something else.

Grab a friend or two into a fireteam. Play rumble. meet up with friend(s) at pre agreed place. friend allows you to get the kill. Repeat. buy friend a beer.

No offence but the reason you don't like crucible is because you're not having fun, you're not having fun because you're not playing well, you're not playing well because you probably haven't gotten practice and good tactics down. Practice, yes it can be very frustrating at first but you have practice both the mechanics in multiplayer and different tactics to fight against other guardians. I mean if you suck that bad that means there is only one direction you can go, and that's up. Every fire fight whether you win or lose, you need to identify what you did right and what you did wrong, in order to get better at the game. Example: "Okay I lost this fire fight, I need to remember to hide behind cover when my shield goes down." of "Okay I lost this fight because I forgot to reload from the previous fire fight." Sooner or later you will be using best practices and good habits to help give you the best chance you have at killing another guardian. At the end, you have to remember it's just a game, and some aspects can be challenging.

1 ReplyI play this game for pve only, and i though the game design would not force me to go pvp to get desired content but... after strugling for 3 days to complete the invective bounty and getting very very frustrated Im sadly thinking about quitting this game. My fear is that the future content will force me again into doing something that is a real chore to me.. I do not have the skill for competitive fps and the game design is punishing me for it. I think Bungie shoulkd adress this. What about an alternative PVE route to these particular bountie sections? like, do the 25 kd ratio OR KILL 2 THOUNSAND DREGS. For players like me, the latter, while painful, is actualy doable!

It is for that very reason of been FORCED to play PvP as to why I have dismissed EACH AND EVEVRY missive that I get, I do not bother with them at all, I have no time or inclination for PvP what so ever.

Thats the point of exotic bounties... if your not good enough to get them why should you have them (i beat that bounty in <10 games)

1 ReplyI suck at PVP and it's even worse that I'm stuck trying to void shotgun everyone for my points and still managed 10. Of course being a Voidwalker Warlock has it's advantages on that bounty. But you don't often get lucky and get to splash 3 people at a time when fully charged in PVP.

There's a reason why it's an exotic bounty... Getting upset that it's too challenging is kind of the point of exotics in the first place

2 RepliesNo one is "forcing" you to play it. You don't have to do the bounty. Of course they want people to experience every aspect of the game, so they made crucible a part of the exotic bounties. None of the bounties are even hard and even a noob could get them done

yeah some of the exotic pvp bounties are hardcore. I got two and one is invective which has a so-so pvp mission.

1 ReplyUnless the Thorn's significantly buffed in the future, I think it's a waste of time. I'll equip a 12 shot Vanguard hand cannon before I even think of using the Thorn. It does look pretty cool, I'll give it that.

You can get exotics from just doing PvE your not forced to do anything.

Use elemental special and heavy weapons that are void and you'll be amazed how fast you get the points.
