Gunsmith Ideas and new upgrade system

Gunsmith Idea The gunsmith seems to have nothing to do after level 20 for us. Perhaps he could do some gunsmithing. Gunsmiths after all modify and repair guns they don’t simply sell stock weapons. So here is a few idea. Players should be able to purchase upgrade vouchers from the vanguard armory to take to the Gunsmith. These upgrades would be used to move weapons into the next class up e.g. rare become legendary, legendary become exotic, ect. Standard category upgrades would work this way: Upgrading, say, a Doctor Nope auto rifle to an exotic would maintain the fully upgraded damage of 300 but zero out all the upgrades so that you would need to max out the weapon again starting from the old maxed out stats. This means that the new max damage might be 400 - 450 with all the original attributes. Attribute Upgrades would work this way: The player could take one feature of the fully upgraded weapon and swap it for another. For example a pulse rifle could fully automatic in the place of a fourth shot. Using this upgrade would again zero the weapon and force the player to fully max out the weapon again. Introduce new classes/categories of weapons beyond exotic the new track would be: common uncommon rare legendary exotic royal epic mythic

  • I wrote something similar to this last week I was thinking of rather then have standard armor that all looks the same, players can customize the armor so its unique to the player, the chest, arms, legs, and helmet each can be built by the player and add to this the ability to take upgrades that you've unlocked from past armors to build your own armor that not only looks the way you want but also builds towards your play style. Ex: I have a chest piece that holds more ammo for pulse rifle so I choose that unlock and 2 other upgrades so the armor like said before can be towards my personal play style. I believe the guns should also be the same way, can have the view of the weapons class from across the board of all of that weapons types so choose auto rifle aim from each auto rifle and then build your upgrades. Whether last round gives bonus damage or firing from the hip, whatever the player wants. Get rid of shades let us just paint the armor the way we want!!!!

    • A blacksmith for armor would be nice too.

      • I disagree with the Upgrade thing, you should only be able to upgrade small parts or perks of the gun imo. This requires Xur as well, I mean he has a Sparrow upgrade consumable, why not a weapon consumable...Let me put some elemental damage on my primary or something. But I do agree, the Gunsmith is not really a gunsmith, he's just a merchant. How about this, give the gun smith some actual meaning past level 18 and allow him to improve the stats of our guns (Rate of fire, Impact, etc...) Wouldn't hurt for him to have a reputation as well I mean he's just sitting there with nothing to do right now. Everyone crowds around the cryptarch guy, getting his little purple packages and getting blues anyways. Plus I'd like to upgrade my mag on some of these guns to be honest

        • It almost sounds like the idea that you have would be really close to a "prestige" system but for your weapons. I agree with you 95%, I have a sahara AR3 that I really want to power as well as add some elemental flair to it. I don't think weapons should advance to the next tier of rariety, although I do very much like the idea of "royal, epic, and mythic" making some sort of appearance. I think it should be close to the way Dark Souls has their weapon upgrade system, you can put most of your weapons on par with upper level tiers in terms of damage and perhaps the all around base stats get a 10-15% boost, but the materials needed to upgrade them become harder and harder making the incentive and neccessity to continue advancing ever present. However, for players that continue with their weapons, the rewarding feeling of carrying a gun you're absolutely smitten with is possible... There are some uncommon guns I'd take any day of the week over some of my rares hands down.

            • I was thinking something like that as well. Gunsmith is only good for synthesis after 18. But I was thinking for example you have a common or rare you really like you can collect materials and glimmer to 'smith' a new random weapon with random stats and upgrades. My two sense

              • Like the idea. Would love to be able to upgrade and not only rely on a random drop to get an upgrade for the weapon type i like. If they also make it feel like a crafting skill it would be awsome.

              • I agree the gun Smith is useless after 20. It be nice to see him get a change like something your are talking about.

I disagree cauz exotics should stay unique in design (they are for the most parts) and that's what they are suppose to be in Destiny. Turning a random legendary gun into an exotic would make "Exotic" state just worthless. No altering such a gun at all. But I do agree with your argument that Banshee seems a bit pointless above level 20. So what I wanna do with weapons is changing elements and, especially, sights. Or a different color scheme. Maybe Bungie could also add weapon shaders via DLC and make them as rewards for missions/strikes/raids. Or switching perks of a gun (of course no unique exotic perks, just the basic regular stuff). For instance, I hate when I get a good gun and for fully upgrading it requires the previous perks like shooting slower but more damage (I really hate that perk, it doesn't help my playstyle at all). That would be welcome stuff. But I'm against changing the quality tier of a gun.
