This is LITTERALLY one of the stories you would find on that show the haunting hour. It's a show by R L Stine
And literally every episode ends with a cliffhanger or with an ending similar to yours. Its actually pretty cool man

Really? I think what you should be more concerned about is why the damn show always ends with the kid having some shit happening to them (one episode involved the kid turning into a doll that got sent to the dump. Another getting trapped inside an ice cream truck, another getting sent to military school, another getting eaten by bugs. So yeah. Pretty good stories that were written for the episodes it's just, some of them are Wierd) [spoiler]im not kidding. Watch a few episodes if you can. I realized that some kids had some pretty messed up fates and I was like WHAT THE -blam!-? [/spoiler]
