Destiny is bigger than you think

Here's what i know. Destiny is Huge. it really is. you think there is no story but there is. its in the grimoire cards and in gear/weapon descriptions. What story there is to Destiny is the foundation to later expansions to the game. this is not Call of Duty where you can beat it in 6 hours and go straight to the multiplayer, or skip the campaign and play only multiplayer anyway. In fact, Destiny is NOT any of those games everyone keeps comparing it to. its not COD, its not Borderlands, its not Mass Effect whatever. Its Destiny. Since a lot of players don't like to find things out themselves but rather be told to or have their hands held throughout the game, thats probably why its been badly criticized. Now on the levels leading to the base level cap which is 20, levels 1-20 is your training to become a Guardian. before then, Guardian is just a title until you finally become one. which takes a lot of effort and learning about yourself and what you can do. yes, getting gear after lvl 20 is very important, as you can tell you need it to do higher level strikes and raids, but have you ever stopped to read your gears description? It has a lot of important details. Lore and non-lore related. The non-lore descriptions have to do with You the player. Stop and look around in the areas. nobody has been on mars or venus, the moon (for decades) enjoy the terraformed scenery. you may find something that could tell you what happened during the Golden Age or what happened during the Collapse. Now im sure a lot of you will give me shit about all this because a lot of players are ignorant to the games they play. Bungie did not work on this game for 10+ years to give you this. they have more in store for us. If any Bungie employee reads this, thank you!

  • 1. You can't count written lore that's not contained in the game as part of "the game". It is supplemental information and not "part" of the game that we bought. Having amazing written lore on some site does not excuse the piss-poor way they explained things in-game. You seem to be thinking Destiny is some kind of brand new genre of game and that it is immune to criticism because of it. Destiny's story sucked, it did and it was disappointing given the fact we all bought it on Bungie's past success alone and expected a cohesive story on par with their other games and all the hype they built up for Destiny. 2. Getting to level 20 is the best part of this game, you consistently find okay gear and you get to play through the "story" as you go. It was pretty fun while it lasted, after 20 the game sure did turn into something else as Bungie said it would. It turned into a lackluster grind-fest where all there is left to do is play the same boring missions again and again for a chance to get better gear so you can continue to rank up or exploit the game to get your gear a little faster. 3. The player shouldn't have to search for the story in a AAA rated title like this, yeah everyone says "Oh you want it handed to you?" around here but that's bullshit, everyone deserves some upfront story elements that are enjoyable to view/read/play. Hidden stuff is great but you can't expect people to rely on that to get the majority of the plot. That's just damned lazy. The story in Destiny sucked, plain and simple. The grimoire cards are neat, the lore is cool, the universe is interesting but Bungie dropped the ball and the presentation of the story was flat and stale. No degree of sugar coating is going to make people think otherwise.
