Forcing PvE players into the Crucible

I love this game and have been playing it a lot... However, I recently picked up an exotic bounty for Toland's Legacy. After researching the requirements, I found out that I have to go into the crucible. WHY? I am not a PvP player. I would prefer to stay as far away from the PvP as possible. Why are you forcing us to go into the Crucible? It is not just this exotic bounty that is requiring me to go into the curcible. If I want gear from FWC, New Monarchy or Dead Orbit - I have to. I remember there was an article where it was said Halo was PvP and you couldn't do both PvE and PvP support. Now you can, so why are you forcing us into the crucible? The crucible part of the bounty gives you +25 for a Hunter or Titan kill and +75 for warlocks - however you are docked -50 if you die. I will never be good enough to get this bounty done. Eventually I will have to abandon this bounty. (EDIT: There are reports that the "death penalty" is no longer active, so it is just a kill grind - if that is true. I will update the thread when I actually try it for myself - Thanks subaqueousReach for the research). Bungie you have a wonderful game - JUST STOP forcing folks to go into the crucible. EDIT: Why so many attacking comments, when the PvE only players want to stay in PvE. It makes no sense to me that you want us in the PvP to bring down the team with our skills. All we are asking for is more options? I just can't understand why more options is being rejected. Update: I have both the Bad Juju and Thorn bounties so I started them both in the crucible at the same time. I have played 10 games of crucible and currently have a KDR of 0.91 and I am slowly getting both of these bounties done. I can confirm that the 10000 points for the bad juju does NOT contain any death penalties. So this one is simply a grind getting kills anyway you can. The Thorn 500 points in VOID kills does have dealth penalties and my KDR is not helping me get this one done very quickly. After 10 games, I will report that I still do NOT like the PvP. I will continue to struggle through it to get these bounties done. I still wish there were options of not doing the PvP. End update. Update 2: I have played 14 games in the PVP and completed the Bad Juju bounty. I am still working on another bounty to get 500 points in kills using only void weapons (5 points per kill and -2 for each death). As of the 14 games I am at 361 out of 500. I have stopped playing PvP until I can get better VOID based weapons. I am still not a fan of PvP and have no desire to play it in the future after these bounties are done. For those saying "I'm a PvP player, stop making me go into PvE", this is exactly why I am asking for options. You could easily require 25 wins in crucible matches instead of 25 strikes. Bungie has options to create bounties that are only for PvE or PvP - they don't have to mix the elements. End Update 2.

What disappoints me most about this game and why I feel cheated is the fact this game is sooooooo pvp driven. The other bungie games had great co-op ability and i didn't even have to touch pvp cause I hate it. Now i have 2 gold bounty's I cant finish cause the pvp objective is way out of my skillsets. Not to mention the FREAKIN THINGS RESET all the time and I lose my progress. In all the adverts and whatnot you see 3 people working together... Had i known the truth I never never never... would have spent 100+ on this game. Im over 50 years old and I just don't have the motor skills of those half my age. Why should I be penalized for that??? I should have a non-pvp option to complete my gold bounty... with the queen update I cant Finnish either cause 50% of the missions are pvp as well. I would love return the pass and this game.... PS... PLEASE explain again why there is no option to turn down or off the music? Seriously?!?!? ((edit The pvp mission is to kill 500 guardians with void. and death cuts my progress in half.. as a hunter ??? soooo not gona happen....)))

They should just have PvE and PvP alternative requirements for all bounties and have you do one or the other. (Still going to be a grind no matter what though...)

This game is not PVE oriented. PVP is the king here and that is bad news for many players. I personally hate the PVP portions of every game that exist. I got the same bounty which rewards you the bad juju, I have it taking up space in my inventory because I don't want to go to the crucible to get the requirements met. Besides, why would I want that gun anyway, most of the exotics are outfitted to be PVP centered rather than PVE. The only gun that is PVE centered is Atheon's Epilogue because it has upgrades that increases damage againts vex and oracles and it's light element is void instead of kinetic, but news flash, this gun is legendary, not exotic. Hard Light is kind of 50/50 because it has upgrades for both PVE and PVP.

    • the point of those exotic weapon bonties are to make you work for it. you think i wanted to help my friend kill that unwed mother-blam!-er in a lvl 28 phogoth? HELL NO. we died like 20 times. but we still did it if you cant take the bounty just abandon it. another one will come along (eventually) no im off to wait 2 more days for xur to get here so i can buy something from him to work on my exotic LMG bounty i got . . .

They're not forcing you to do anything lol just drop the bounty if it means that much to you. No body forces you to do anything you are a human being with the ability to respond to stimuli in a manner of your own choosing. :)

      • As someone who managed to grind my 500 void damage kills with deaths setting me back for the "corrupted thorn" (hand cannon exotic) bounty, I want to say, to be the best guardian with the best gear you should have to prove yourself. If the crucible isn't your thing simply research what the bounty requirements are before choosing!

      • It's not forcing you to do anything. You have a choice, you are simply choosing to do so begrudgingly. IMHO they designed this game assuming you would do both pvp and pve. Probably not equally, but the game was designed with both these game modes in mind.

      • Unlike most MMO games, Destiny is an MMOFPS. In FPS games, their success is dictated by the Multiplayer experiences, which is about 80% PvP play. MMO games on the other hand primarily focus on PvE elements, which probably takes up about 90% of play (just from personal experience). So as Destiny is a combination of both, it needs focus on both areas. For example, all of the PvP Players are also being forced into the Vanguard, where as PvE players are being forced into the crucible. All bounties are made so that the players deserving of exotic items are competent in both arenas... not just in the one side. If they did not do this, you'd find the balance is swayed from 50-50 to 70-30 (in favour of the Crucible) when there's no additional or unique PvE elements, and sways back 30-70 (in favour of Vanguard) when there are unique and additional PvE elements. Basically, missions are extremely repetitive and scripted, and multiplayer games are unique because it's all individually controlled. No encounters are the same in the Crucible. You're being made to go into the Crucible because the game needs to survive long enough for new content to be released.

      • They are just forcing us to play crucible bc that's the only way they believe they can make this game last. That's what I think at least. I hated how I had full VG points but have to play crucible to get the weapons and gear I want. Mainly bc my internet sucks but also bc I wanted this game for the pve. That being said I have started to really enjoy pvp recently. Still wish they didn't push it so hard tho

      • I agree as well. I can play crucible, but here is the problem. With the auto assist aiming(which I can't turn off) it just takes one person to throw off your aim. Then to add on it, I like pve more. I can do PvP, but I prefer pve. My bounty is to kill 10k guardians. That isn't going to happen.

        • 100% agreed. Pvp should be less then 10% of Destiny. It should be something you do when you get bored. It blows my mind why bungie nerfs guns because of the cry babies in pvp, which ruined the AR for pve, and the screws over pve people again by making use do pvp for the "best" weapons in the game. Wtf is bungie thinking lately????

        • It seems to me to balance the FWC, Dead Orbit etc, there should PvE only factions, other than Vangaurd. Everything else is fairly well balanced but that. (e.g. Raid = Iron Banner, maybe).

        • Exotic bounties have you do a bit of everything since everyone wants to get an extremely powerful weapon. Its usually just one objective for each activity so its not that big a deal.

In part I do agree with you. But at the same time nobody is FORCING you to complete the bounties, you want the exotic so you have to fulfill it's requirements, simple as that. There are going to be aspects in every game which wont be to certain players tastes, and without finishing them they won't have the ability to finish a mission or story/obtain specific items. The argument you have put forward is essentially no different to saying you wish to be a veterinarian yet you are FORCED to go to university merely because you don't wish to put in the hard work to achieve it, it's just a requirement and ultimately YOU make the decision whether you are going to fulfill these requirements or not. Also, there are PvE elements in most of those bounties also, yet those guys arent complaining they are forced to play PvE and complete tasks which they potentially won't enjoy, I haven't seen a single thread on the feedback forum complaining about this aspect of the bounties, they just suck it up and get it done to get their reward. I'm not making an attempt to start a flame war or stir anyone up, just an observation. Also, The PVP tasks for the bounties are generally not THAT hard to do, they aren't absurdly difficult to complete, most just rely on having a base KD/R over 1.0 for a few rounds which takes a bit of caution and some map knowledge, nothing too major. I've done 2 of these bounties with PvP requirements so far. One being the "A Dubious Task" one which requires the 25 K/D spread, and at the time i received the bounty I didnt enjoy PvP whatsoever due to the lag and people occasionally not taking any damage whatsoever and also the lame kills that register 3-4 seconds later, sometimes after your gun has fully reloaded. But, after forcing myself to play the crucible to complete that bounty I've actually gone back quite a few times since I started to enjoy it, even if for nothing else than to complete crucible bounties, get some XP bonuses and obtain crucible reward drops when I have no PvE bounties left to complete. I would be in complete agreeance with you if the PvP elements of these bounties were much harder tasks like "obtain a 15 kill streak in rumble" or "capture 5 salvage points in a row in a single round" or something to that effect. But they are all manageable, since they basically all only rely on holding a KDR above 1.0 and just take a little bit of patience and some practice.

For anyone in general who thinks the PvP bounties are unfair, here are the PvP requirements for the 6 known exotic bounties: EDIT: So, because I like to be thorough I went and checked forum boards of people who have actually completed these bounties and updated the information. A Dubious Task Earn a 25 K/D spread. The spread doesn't even have to be in one game. So long as you can keep a decent K/D ratio (1.0 or higher) across several games you can complete this easily A light in the Dark Earn 500 points with Void Damage. 5 per kill 2 per death. It's definitely a challenge, but if you tough it out you'll eventually get there A Voice in the Wilderness Still no PvP requirement. An Unknown Patron
This one was spot on.
This one is a little more pvp 1. Win 5 Crucible matches. you can't tell me you are unable to achieve this 2. Perform feats of skill in the crucible. just get PvP awards like double kill 3. Perform kills headshots and sprees with a scout rifle. really? This is too challenging? Shattered Memory Fragment Still no PvP requirements Toland's Legacy Earn 10,000 points in crucible. Kills or Assists = 75 points. There's still no death penalty. People went out of their way to test it and debunk that myth. Link to someone who has the bouty saying that the death penalty does not exist: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/995873-destiny/70122206 The only one that is even close to being as difficult as you were claiming is A Dubious Task. The other challenges are -blam!-ing laughable in comparison and can be done simply by putting in even a little bit of effort.

                • I think that this is intentionally done to encourage people to try it, and in some cases try it hard, who would never otherwise give it much of a chance. For some there is no way they would ever (though I still think Toland's Legacy is a lot easier and faster to do than you would expect from when I did it). But there are others who may find that that they enjoy it more than they thought but were too nervous because at first they do poorly and it's discouraging or intimidating--like me, I usually don't like pvp much, and still am not very good, but find I enjoy it periodically in this game. In those cases an exotic is a big carrot to tempt such people to swallow it and try again or at least try once.

                  • amusing effect from todays queens bounties - hug the walls, and a lot of PvE players are trying to get scout/pistol headshots. while they can shoot standing still - they have 0 ability to juke someone with a shotgun. so far failing on getting my headshots....but oh my how the shotgun/melee/grenade kills are rolling in today.

                  • An exotic bounty requires you to go above and beyond, to stretch to get it, so you have to do crucible and PvE, and some crazy crucible/PvE stuff at that. (a crucible guy has to do PvE to get an exotic from a bounty as well, see it from the other side bro). I do think it is a bit cheesy that the factions only take cruci marks but give pve patrols. It would be helpful to know more about the factions I suppose but there isnt anything in the game.

                  • I agree, Crucible bounties are daunting, but I kind of dig the idea of designating certain items as either Crucible or Vanguard rewards. That way your armor kind of tells your story. Like you see a Guardian decked out in Crucible armor you know not to mess, or you see someone in head-to-toe Vanguard armor, this guy's been around the block, might want to ask him to lead your Raid. The only problem with this is, as far as I can tell, the two types don't look all that different. They should have stark cosmetic differences in design.
