Forcing PvE players into the Crucible

I love this game and have been playing it a lot... However, I recently picked up an exotic bounty for Toland's Legacy. After researching the requirements, I found out that I have to go into the crucible. WHY? I am not a PvP player. I would prefer to stay as far away from the PvP as possible. Why are you forcing us to go into the Crucible? It is not just this exotic bounty that is requiring me to go into the curcible. If I want gear from FWC, New Monarchy or Dead Orbit - I have to. I remember there was an article where it was said Halo was PvP and you couldn't do both PvE and PvP support. Now you can, so why are you forcing us into the crucible? The crucible part of the bounty gives you +25 for a Hunter or Titan kill and +75 for warlocks - however you are docked -50 if you die. I will never be good enough to get this bounty done. Eventually I will have to abandon this bounty. (EDIT: There are reports that the "death penalty" is no longer active, so it is just a kill grind - if that is true. I will update the thread when I actually try it for myself - Thanks subaqueousReach for the research). Bungie you have a wonderful game - JUST STOP forcing folks to go into the crucible. EDIT: Why so many attacking comments, when the PvE only players want to stay in PvE. It makes no sense to me that you want us in the PvP to bring down the team with our skills. All we are asking for is more options? I just can't understand why more options is being rejected. Update: I have both the Bad Juju and Thorn bounties so I started them both in the crucible at the same time. I have played 10 games of crucible and currently have a KDR of 0.91 and I am slowly getting both of these bounties done. I can confirm that the 10000 points for the bad juju does NOT contain any death penalties. So this one is simply a grind getting kills anyway you can. The Thorn 500 points in VOID kills does have dealth penalties and my KDR is not helping me get this one done very quickly. After 10 games, I will report that I still do NOT like the PvP. I will continue to struggle through it to get these bounties done. I still wish there were options of not doing the PvP. End update. Update 2: I have played 14 games in the PVP and completed the Bad Juju bounty. I am still working on another bounty to get 500 points in kills using only void weapons (5 points per kill and -2 for each death). As of the 14 games I am at 361 out of 500. I have stopped playing PvP until I can get better VOID based weapons. I am still not a fan of PvP and have no desire to play it in the future after these bounties are done. For those saying "I'm a PvP player, stop making me go into PvE", this is exactly why I am asking for options. You could easily require 25 wins in crucible matches instead of 25 strikes. Bungie has options to create bounties that are only for PvE or PvP - they don't have to mix the elements. End Update 2.

  • How about you be a well rounded player? If you are bad at Crucible it's largely because of a lack a adaptability. You're good at PvE simply because the AI is unbelievably predictable. Their reactions and actions are programmed. This is not the case with humans. We don't follow patterns set by others. Your inability to incorporate new variables into a new workable framework simply shows that PvE players have no idea what to do when there isn't a stupid and repetitive enemy to fight. They simply expect to fight the same enemy all day long with no variation.

I totally agree with you. I'm strugulling with "A light in the dark" the PvP is impossible especially when you suck at PvP. Bounties should be always PvE. Or drop the -2 point each dead stuff.

So I suck at PVp. My kd is around .6 or .7. Yeah, that bad. I felt, at first, that is was being forced into PVP with the bad juju bounty, but as it got closer and my were almost done, ( I now have 20/25), I realized something: i don't need this dumb gun. The ultimate goal in the game is gear/loot, and that makes the drive to play more so. Truth be told, you can easily get exotics on PVE, running weekly strikes or on the nightfall, where in PVP, you are extremely unlikely to even get a legendary. I'm going to do the PVP anyway and stock up on crucible bounties before hand because, hey, I don't need it, but I want it. So it's not forcing you into anything. If you want it, you do it. Also, it's a lot harder to get strange coins in PVP to purchase exotic stuff from xur. Bottom line is this, I have a lot more fun playing pve and will continue. You have to ask yourself: "do I want the gun or not?

Think of the crucible like a guardian's true test. Screw killing aliens, don't you want to take down the most dangerous foes out there? Another thinking mind like yours. It's all about tactics, tactics require strategy. It is frustrating at first but you have to give it a legitimate shot, yes you will die a lot and it will take you a while to get your own tactics down, but once you start getting above 1.0 KDR it is easily the most fun you will have anywhere in the game. Things that really help improve your survival are: - Use cover! - Stick with teammates, yes some of these teammates may make mistakes, but your survival rate greatly improves if you stick together. - Understand what you're enemy is trying to do! If you see someone running towards you, most likely he is going to try to shotgun and/or melee you, if an enemy guardian jumps in the air he is trying to confuse you, etc, etc. Understanding what the enemy is trying to do helps you plan a counter tactic or attack. - Don't just spray and pray, take well aimed shots. - Understand your weapons recoil, this is super important! Example, if you use a pulse rifle it will almost always recoil up, meaning if you aim for the chest or neck you will get a couple of headshots in. - You don't need high level weapons for crucible. I run around with a level 12 Shingen-E auto rifle as my primary because of it's recoil and fire rate, I can assure you it is easily the best primary weapon I have for crucible only. I obviously don't use this weapon on story missions and strikes as this is too low. - Adjust your look sensitivity. I currently use a sensitivity of 4 because I cant deal with the high sensitivity on Destiny for some reason, but on COD Ghosts I use an extremely high sensitivity, every game is different. You need to find that sweet spot you are most comfortable in. - Use every weapon in your arsenal available to you to the best of your ability. You see an enemy taking a control point and have a nade? Throw the nade first before engaging the enemy, you might land a lucky kill or at the very least bring his shield down thus increasing your chances of killing him or her. Enemy shield down and out of bullets in your clip? Run and melee the bastard! - Timing is everything sometimes, you might NOT have this down at the moment, but understanding that and knowing to work on it will only improve your game. - Yes you will run into people that will piss you off and make you scream, "How the hell did he not die and of course I'm the one that died! WTF?!?!?!" Every player has these moments. Just remember it just makes it that much more satisfying when you get your revenge. - Practice makes perfect, or in this case will def make you better. You can't expect to be better than anyone at crucible if you haven't played, especially since these players have been polishing their skills as well. The sooner you join the fray, the sooner you can start getting better. IDK hope this helps, I know you want nothing to do with crucible and I'm not trying to convince you to do it, just giving you some tips to help you complete your bounty, and any bounties you might receive in the future. I got my ass handed to me in PVP but now I can hold my own, it just took a little practice.

It goes both ways if you are only PvP, you will Need to do PvE and vice versa, but I think it makes sense, its an exotic its meant to be hard to get. Which is why they put it in both modes so you prove that u deserve the weapon .

    • If you are only pvp and you get an exotic bounty you have to pve too.

    • The exotic weapons are cool, but not really best in slot most of the time. If pvp or pve content is really that much of a grind, stick with what you like and pick up either vanguard or crucible gear respectively. They really are comparable - minus a mostly trivial perk here and there. Bad juju is a great example of this. That gun is mediocre at best.

    • Get a viod shotgun, fusion riffle, or a viod heavy weapon. Heavy ammo spawns at 9m, 5:30m, 240ish in the 3v3 categories. I don't know what it is anymore in the other since the 12m change.

    • I commented a similar post about crucible exotic bounty requirements. This is all I'm gunna say about it. Imagine the shoe on the other foot. There are some people that are only PVP and stay away from PVE as much as you stay away from PVP. them getting the bad juju bounty would be horrible. Complete 25 strikes? That's a nightmare for a non-PVE fan. I'm just saying - everyone is complaining about the crucible only requirements yet nobody is thinking of the other portion of players. it's a fair bounty for an exotic weapon. If it were easy everyone would have it and it wouldn't be so exotic anymore. Course that brings me to another debate I won't get into just yet. Hope that shed some light on it. I'm not 100% sure but I imagine bungie created the bounties with both types of requirements to appeal to both types of players while still making it a challenge.

    • I understand your annoyance, but think about it this way. There are people that play only pve for a long time, one day they gain an exotic bounty for a super powerful weapon that they could use in both pve AND pvp. It wouldn't be fair to have to only go through pve when you can use the weapon for both pve AND pvp. They want to make you work hard for the best. That being said, I wish you a ton of luck on getting both of those finished as I've not been able to get any exotic bounties yet.

    • I have not tried the pvp exotic bounty yet, but from what I understand there is a way around this without going into pvp if it is just requiring crucible rank. Just farm for basic materials (spinmetal, helium and ironrelic) then turn them in at the crucible vendors for their marks and reputation. If I am wrong and cant be done that way, then I apologize. Hopefully this helps some and let me know if I am right as I too am a pve only gamer.

      • Coming from someone who plays strictly PvE content, you won't be running into a lot of stuff out there that is going to demand that you need this equipment. A team of level 26-29 players with blue weapons can dismantle anything as long as they work together and focus fire where needed.

      • I am a PVP player, I have played a lot of online FPS's, and is like to think I am good at this game. That being said I agree with you 100%. Not because the bounties are hard (I think they need to be honestly) but because you have a lot if non PVP players on Destiny. It's not fair to those that are bad online or not adept to changing styles online. I think they should have allowed a choice for the exotics. An all crucible or an all PvE. Make the PvE harder for those people to balance it out. I am doing the Thorn Void damage right now and it isn't hard but damn does it rely on people going positive every match. I can see where people would get pissed.

I feel for you. A friend of mine had those same 2 bounties and doesn't like PvP. I love PvP so we swapped accounts for 1 night so I could finish his bounties. I like to consider myself good at PvP (I was able to complete both bounties in about 3-4 hours, maybe less) but the Void one was a pain in the ass. My recommendation is to get a Void Heavy Machine Gun and just camp the heavy ammo. The problem is that camping the heavy ammo can leave you open to dying if you aren't a good PvP'er... and that will slow down your progress. As for the Crucible requirements on bounties.... I have mixed feelings. In general, I don't think there is enough variety on guns, exotics, legendaries, etc. If there were more options, I'd like to see Crucible-only bounties, PvE-only bounties, mixed bounties, etc. As it stands now - I feel for you because there aren't alternatives. If there were alternatives, i'd be fine with this as is. Not every bounty is doable by every player - which I'm okay with. To put it a different way.... I personally hate PvE. While I was doing PvP, he was doing PvE with my new Titan to unlock planets. I haven't had an exotic bounty yet, but when/if I get one, I'll dread doing the PvE portion. That being said, the PvE isn't impossible for some group of players so it is slightly different circumstances - there are some people who will NEVER be able to obtain certain crucible-related bounties. I don't think the same is true for PvE-related bounties... but maybe that is the problem. Maybe the PvE portion of the bounties are too easy compared to the crucible portions?

        • Dont want to do crucible? You just won't get that weapon. Accept it and move on- do what you want to do. Want crucible gear but don't want to play crucible to get it? That's a shame, just stick with vanguard gear then. Bungie is trying to raise replay value of the game and rewarding well-rounded players.

            • I agree with you 100%. I despise PvP, always have and always will. When they pitched this game they said you'd be able to choose how you play and wouldn't be forced to go into either PvE or PvP content if you didn't wish to. I can understand they want it to be challenging as you're trying to get an exotic weapon but they could have set a PvP option and a challenging PvE option to allow people to do one or the other to progress. Different people have different skills and different likes and dislikes. No one should be forced to play one part of the game that they don't want to in order to complete these bounties, especially when it is very simple to cater to your entire audience without causing anyone any undue distress.
