Who told you grinding is fun?

Spending hour after hour to get Vanguard marks, strange coins, etc. is tedious as hell. After level 20 this game stops being fun and becomes a chore. I'm getting zero Legendary gear whatsoever. I'm beginning to lose my patience.

  • Yeah I've pretty much had enough, played for like 12 hours yesterday was on lvl 21 finished on 21, cheers, brother logs on to do the last strike I played gets legendary gauntlets straight up, we finish the strike he's putting on his new gear and he gets from 24-26 in 40mins... It's annoying to see people with half your gametime and they're way ahead of you.... When was random ever a good rewards system? How would the developer like it if their wages where just given out randomly and the cleaner might end up with a developers paycheck for the week?

    • Um. Why are you trying to get better gear? Is what you have not effective enough? You get rewards for just about everything. Play what you want to play, and you'll get better gear for it. Over time, you'll find gear that levels you up more and more, which means higher-level activities (such as strikes) will be more available to you, and those higher-level activities will offer even better loot, which then repeats the cycle. Every now and then, you'll find a weapon that just clicks with you. For example, just the other day I found a badass hand cannon that's not only an extremely good weapon, period, but a weapon that works really well for my playstyle. These are weapons that you hold on to for a good while. When you start going up against even higher levels, the weapon will very slowly be a little less effective, but you hold on to it because it's still pretty good, and totally worth it. Eventually, though, you have to trade it out for something more effective, but by that time you will have found an even better gun. So, put your old scout rifle away and give another weapon a try. Use that pulse rifle you got yesterday "I hate pulse rifles." Then use the auto rifle. "I hate auto rifles." Then use the hand cannon. "I hate the hand cannon." Then, I hate to break it to you, but you probably don't actually like the game. Grinding for gear is pointless, because until you hit the ceiling you're going to find something better to replace it, anyways. So what you're doing is trying to hit the ceiling as fast as possible. But you're not having fun doing it, and the things you have are already decent enough, so why are you in such a rush? Long story short: It's a video game. If you feel like you have to work in order to have fun playing it, then you probably don't enjoy the game.

        • I agree. The game is fun, but the story and repetitive grinding past level 20 gets old quick. I've put a lot of hours in, but I don't know how much more I can take of the poor leveling and lot system. The should drop the grinding and just keep the rpg elements and make a better story.

          • Grinding isnt for everyone. Deffo not. Im a relatively old skool RPGer so I have already found my ways of alleviating the tedium. But as I said, its absolutely not going to be everyones cup of tea. Totally understand mate. Welcome to RPG loot mechanics haha ;)

            • Don't give up so easily. The game would suck if it wasn't a challenge. I'm level 28 and to get higher I need more shards. The easiest way to get them is breaking down legendary gear. And to get the gear I need to play the game. And it's nice knowing that I have to continue to play to get higher level. Instead of everyone just moving up at the same pace with no challenge.

            • Really starting to get bored of this game. Upto level 25/26. Was great. Now everything seems to hard to complete. You need to able to dedicate more hours than there are in a day to get anywhere. #boring

            • LMAAAOL!!! =D #HILARIOUS They must want to challenge you... >.> When you struggle\toil\etc for something you appreciate it more... O.O No-wait, they want to 'build your character'(in general - not in game)or some B.S. by forcing you to 'Work Hard For It'... -.- #WorkHardAndYouWillSomehowBeMoreEntertained But seriously - they most likely want you to spend lots of time playing their game so that people who witness this will think along the lines of 'Destiny Soo Great you can't stop playing' & seek to get it themselves... #PromotionThroughManipulation (If people spend hours & hours playing their game they look good yeah?)

I said the same thing when a friend of mine first convinced me to try an MMO. I said the same thing again around the 500th time (not exaggerating, it may have actually been more) I killed Terramorphous in Borderlands 2 and still hadn't seen any of the rare skins or heads he was supposed to drop and only one of the Legendaries he held. For some reason, gamers and the industry agree that grinding is good. I personally think that it's only useful for saving money on a game's budget since they don't have to create as much actual content that way. I used to bitch about it, but it's an accepted industry practice so I have given up. Good luck OP. Don't forget your nightly sacrifice to the RNG Gods.

                  • Cave. Earth Russia mission 5, kill the hive which re spawn there. Farm it in 1 hour blocks Lots of green and blues and you'll get legendary engrams. Fastest way to lvl up your class and cryptark rank at the same time too. You'll also get public events every 30 minutes for the legendary materials. Motes of light, ascendant material/ shards to upgrade your gear. It's boring as hell, but it's the best way to get the weapons and gear if you don't want to smash your head a against a brick wall and spend huge amounts of time running strikes for little reward.

I agree with Luna. I've been a level 24 for a while and the grind to get my new monarchy rank up to level 2 is taking way to long. I have no legendary gear and I've been grinding away forever in pvp.... Don't even get me started on the loot system for multiplayer. 30kills 4 deaths= rare item or no loot at all. While 3 kills 10death= legendary engram and mote of light. (One of my experiences with the loot.) you would think being at the top of the leader boards, you would be rewarded. I know it's a new game but you would have thought bungie would make a game a little less..... Grind prone. Fix it bungie. It's getting old

                        • I agree somewhat. The game does feel a bit underwhelming for what we were promised- am I going to have to wait to pay another $10-$20 to get an expansion with some substance? Are the planned events enough to keep the game dynamic? I'm still having a lot of fun playing but once I get raid geared I'm not sure what my incentive to play will be aside from becoming a big PVP guy.

A quick reply, this ain't a mmo, it was already states by bungie and as much ppl will say it is it just have a few aspects of a mmo. It was, as many parts of the game, bad implemented wich made it after lvl 20 a bad grinding with repetitive areas and bosses. Im hoping that this next week the new bounties will give the game more depth and variety for us to enjoy.

My main issue isn't that grinding isn't fun, but that grinding IN THIS GAME isn't fun. Grinding for new perks, gear, level ups, ext. can be EXTREMELY fun IF you have the content, story, maps, open and explorable space, and narrative to do it! This game has none of that.... just the same old linear world over and over again doing the exact same thing within the exact same space with the exact same enemy spawns with the exact same lack of narrative. Not to mention NO MOTIVE to do it... as of now, why would I be grinding? So I could keep doing the exact same thing within the exact same space with the exact same enemy spawns with the exact same lack of narrative? please Bungie, tell me what my motive for grinding is.... so I can give you more of my money for "new" content that should of shipped with the game at launch? I don't think I'll be doing that. THAT IS NOT FUN!

                                    • I sort of agree! This grinding should have been shrouded in story and everything would have been ok. That's what ES does! You don't usually feel like you have to do any "training/ grinding" in Skyrim, not unless you choose to. But you do, every bounty is a grind, ever faction quest is a grind, every side quest is a grind, but the beauty is they aren't boring, your leveling up but it's surrounded by story. The biggest problem with this game, that NO ONE can deny, is that the story is so boring and thin that you can see through it, and it is almost nonexistent! You have no choices, no alternate pathways, bust a very straight line to go in, so strait it become an open world pathway game (and how does that even make sense). At this rate, unless Destiny's expansions change everything, When the next ES comes out in 2016 I will not be getting the next Destiny.

I am going to have to agree with this as someone who plays MMO's this game got it wrong. It is disheartening that the game has a great world that I really want to be involved in but it is just has the worst grind I have ever seen. It still isn't as bad as Phantasy Star Universe but it's close.

                                      • Like a lot of people point out, grinding is a very common thing in MMOs. However, something that a lot of MMOs also do to make up for it, is having a story. Y'know. Characters, subplots, side-quests with unique storylines beyond, "Dead Orbit needs salvage..." Those are more like daily quests. And they're kind of reviled, because they don't do the smoke-and-mirrors trick of motivating players very well. Story motivation tricks you into doing the task for the task, not for the reward. If you play for the reward, you resent the time not being rewarded, see it as a chore. This is something they really should've got right.
