I don't care how "legit" you think you are...
Eventually you will farm. It's inevitable. You will sit in front of a cave or in a small area or in front of some mighty doors and you will pour thousands of rounds of ammo into enemies until you get what you need to get/upgrade your legendaries/exotics. You'll do it in your big boy pajamas. You'll do it fully clothed. You'll do it in your tighty-whities. You'll do it eating food or listening to music or drinking a soda. Either way, you'll do it and you'll like it... all night long.

6 RepliesThe end game of Destiny once you get your Legendary gears and trying to get ready for a raid. You'll seriously just be finding materials or scrap armor to upgrade your Legendaries so you can reach that next level. But I do not understand Cave farming. Leveling is somewhat easy imo. You dont need to do 98347603 for legendary engrams. Engrams suck. Theyre random. Theyre good for maybe a chance at exotics but to get legendary item you want from an engram is like winning the lottery TWICE! Simple leveling should be like so. Level 1-20 (Strikes and Story Mission). Level 20-24 (Blue armors with Light, Typically gained by Strikes or Crucible). Level 24-25 (Getting a Full legendary armor set.) This is best gained by getting reputation via bounties then purchasing the legendary item YOU WANT Npcs. Level 25-27 (Simply upgrading your armor will increase your armor's light. This is where you will spend your time finiing things like Spinmetal and Helium Filaments. Also scrapping junk armor.) From that point on you'll be good for a raid. Remember no matter what level you are it is still a raid so you will probably feel like its pretty freakin hard. Raid gear will get you from 27-30. Remember to upgrade.

Eh, I did it for a bit to see what the fuss was about after noticing others at it.. The trade-off in boredom was a tad much. You can do the story missions on level 20(+ whatever floats your boat and get plenty of the same horde style stuff occurring without the monotony.

1 ReplyI doubt people enjoy farming that Hive respawn cave for 30 - 45 minutes, to an hour, or even two hours. Bungie didn't give us any other means to aquire gear, other then Strikes, which aren't exactly fun due to boring ass, lame, bullet sponge bosses that are pointless. So shooting up a cave, while listening to music, having a drink seems more tolerable than running multiple strikes for the same chance at drops, with a boring, tedious boss fight at the end of the strike. If Bungie wanted more creative ways for us to obtain Legendary/Exotic gear? They'd have done so. Instead we got strikes, which most are boring, Crucible and a bloody cave of Hive. Yeah... Oh, and even more reason to just farm a stupid cave over anything else? Weekly HEROIC Strikes don't even AUTOGROUP you with TWO OTHER PLAYERS. The Raid? Please, there are some of us with friends which all they do is farm the cave, or Crucible 24/7 cause they HATE PvE!

4 RepliesNot me. I don't find that kind of thing to be fun. Instead, I run around and do patrols. I collect to materials I need to level up my Vanguard-purchased armor, I complete the Vanguard Mark producing special events, and I generally have fun playing. I also do Heroic strike missions.

I'm used to MMOs already, and seeing how people either AFK or just flat out bail on Strikes, I'll have the Farm lend me its aid.

Anyone who has gotten any bounty, with the exception of the target bounties, has farmed. In a loot based shooter/dungeon crawler the only way not to farm would be to play it start to finish and then throw it away.

3 RepliesDid you consider that a lot of people just don't like the lack of variety farming requires? One of my friends admitted to taking just over 2 hours farming some hive respawn just to get a piece of legendary gear. In that time, I completed a nightfall strike and also got a legendary gear. For some people it isn't a matter of "legit vs. cheap" ways of getting gear, it's that we don't want to be bored as hell for the exact same time investment

All joking aside (which is what my post was, a half joke), why are all you "farming is for losers, there is so much more to the game" assuming that people just farm and do nothing else? Seriously... it's like you think that if someone farms, that is all they do. I know this is a gaming community, and I'm not expecting much, but a little critical thinking would be nice.

Basically if u run patrols at all you are farming. That is all a patrol is, a fancy game variant in which you farm. Wether it be for mats, engrams, bounties, or vanguard rep it is farming. If you have yet to do a single patrol and spend your time in the crucible trying to get legendary/exotic loot then guess what, that is also a form of farming just on a pvp variant rather than pve. I don't see why people think that farming is something to shy away from when in reality all mmo base games, such as WoW SWTOR and yes Destiny, are built with every intention of its players farming. So swallow what stupidity you have mistaken for pride and go farm the crap out of these worlds...it's what the devs planned for us to do.

Your damn right I've done this grind in so many games I can't even think of all of them. These types of games thrive of grinding because the more hours you get out of a game, the more you appreciate the game. I think this game makes me grind harder then most games on Xbox. I just wish that this world had a lot more endgame material then strikes and crucible....I'm still working on getting gear worth doing a raid and making it all the way through it.

hell yeah farmed for 5 hours in my tighty whities i already had legendary but the more the better and also it helped clear bounties

This is true to anyone that is actually trying to get things in a decent time frame. If they don't do this, then they likely will not be seeing high levels on their characters for quite some time. There is simply too much needed to not farm in one way or another.

Nope never have. I heard that engram percentages are trash so I never have. It's cute that you think you're clever for just assuming everyone else does though. I hope it makes you feel less guilty for doing so.
