Sweet Jesus.
I am not sure what I find more incredible.
That there is a faction of people prepared to spend 5hrs of their real life sitting outside a virtual cave pumping rounds into mobs 15 levels lower who can offer no challenge. OR
That there is a faction of people prepared to spend 5hrs of their real life as internet vigilantes, policing their personal interpretation of the game mechanics in the singular and time honoured fashion of deliberately frustrating and irritating other players. OR
That this thread actually exists for both factions to continue to duke it out mano y mano in a smartphone/tablet friendly environment whilst not playing. OR
That it has perhaps not occurred to people that in a first release, high end gear is deliberately difficult to obtain (without time sink or outrageous fortune) in order to stagger the player base across the content. When an expansion arrives (DLC, whatever) the new high end gear becomes nigh on impossible to obtain, while the drop rate for the vanilla high end is enhanced to accelerate the casual player base towards purchasing the DLC (protecting the continuing revenue stream of the developer). Like in, I don't know, maybe every other MMO style game I've ever played?
So some people are getting geared up in less time than others - since it isn't exactly a subscription game I don't see the big deal.
Keep playing and having fun and you'll get the drops eventually, but deliberately or recklessly griefing other players is never cool. Farmers, make sure the nearby low levels are getting the quest clicks they need; would be vigilantes, just walk on by - is it really worth your time to interfere?
Meh.

I feel like you going to the lengths to write all this is just as bad as the people on this thread lol. Could have just ignored this all together :P
-
I've mentioned this already, but I have very little else to keep me entertained on my commute home. You could probably say the same thing about everyone that has interacted with this topic!
-
Shooting at the cave was still easily 1,000x more entertaining than almost anything anyone ever does in EVE. Destiny is basically a single-player game with support for coop. Attempting to police players for exploits is the same as crying and whining and moaning about someone using Alchemy to make OP gear in Skyrim. If it doesn't affect you, ignore it. So many people seem to think everyone should be doing things the way they think those things should be done. It's pretty messed up that people constantly bitching about how others are ruining the game prioritize that over actually playing themselves.

"Sweet Jesus. I am not sure what I find more incredible. That there is a faction of people prepared to spend 5hrs of their real life sitting outside a virtual cave pumping rounds into mobs 15 levels lower who can offer no challenge. OR" Which is in fact something similar to what you do,go on strikes to gain loot.Same concept-"Enemies drop, and so does loot." "That there is a faction of people prepared to spend 5hrs of their real life as internet vigilantes, policing their personal interpretation of the game mechanics in the singular and time honoured fashion of deliberately frustrating and irritating other players. OR" I refer you to my previous statement Hercules. "That this thread actually exists for both factions to continue to duke it out mano y mano in a smartphone/tablet friendly environment whilst not playing. OR" Indeed, quite interesting. But lets not forget that both of us are apart of these factions.

great post, but i have a feeling it won't affect the status quo.

Edited by PowZ: 9/22/2014 7:35:10 PMI don't care if others want to spend hours shooting at a hole . . . until it interferes with the intended story flow of the area . . . and I think it must be doing that. It seems that people playing the story and coming through the area of the cave will not be able to get the experience that Bungie and the gameflow inteded if a half dozen others are farming the cave at the same time. Am I wrong? As far as what to be done about it . . . I don't know. . . but it just doesn't seem totally right. edit: I have since concluded that it does not seem to be interferring with any story flow . . . so it actually is a no harm done thing. If you're against it then just don't do it. But don't block the cave to keep others from doing it if they want to.

Good post man!
-
wow that actually makes since... i for one would rather have my high end gear before the new stuff arrives either from weekly update or DLC tho, so ima keep farming til im all legendary my arms and chest i bought but weapons i got from farming
-
Edited by ShadowGodd: 9/21/2014 9:55:12 AMnow that i think of it i think there shouldnt be any loot drops of equipment at all... just materials to upgrade and synth your equipment. equipment should only be available to be purchased at a shop and/or rewarded from pvp and bounties... also i would rather see only ships as spawn points for enemies and the ships should swoop in instead of hovering over it should fly over and drop enemies in random groups in random spots...

I lol'd.

haha, dude, yes!

OR the fact you took all that time to find this forum, read the topic, and post a long ass comment. So yeah...

Keeps me busy on the commute home :-)

I was there for 15 minutes last night and found it really dull (especially compared to the "We've woken the Hive!" spot I used the night before for a couple hours). I did, however, get to see someone killed by a falling satellite. That was awesome! I'm finding earning marks and buying gear much faster (and more enjoyable) than farming a single spot. That being said I have had a purple engram turn into a legendary fusion rifle, a BLUE engram turn into a legendary pulse rifle, and a purple engram turn into sunseeker gauntlets. That goes well with my purchased helm, gauntlets and chest (wish I had purchased the boots instead, but will later this weekend) and will also go well with my exotic bounty (10/25 on the strikes portion of, I believe, the pulse rifle). RNGesus has been kind to me, I think.

I can't believe there is a clan of people that will type this much to prove a point

I find it passes the time on my commute. If reading words isn't your thing, perhaps forums and libraries aren't for you!

I tend to find that longer posts dissuade the trolls and people who argue without a valid point because it takes too much time for the troll or there are too many points that the people who can't argue properly can counter against. I approve of longer posts. Also, longer posts that at least make an attempt at proper grammar grab my attention due to the fact that I will, at first glance, assume they have a high enough intellect to explain their point of view better than that of someone who uses ignorance to show they are upset. People like, "Fusion rifles are OP cuz they be like, one shot lazer beams" versus, "Fusion rifles, in my opinion, are unbalanced because of the fact that they can one shot guardians, be used in a sweeping motion, and mostly because the special ammo in PvP gives the rifle so much ammo they are no longer special weapons but now a primary weapon."

I agree with you, the commenter i replyed to, I didn't agree with him, it's not his right to choose what people do in the game and how they play it. In games like Destiny and Borderlands farming is an important part of the game and is one of the main ways to get loot. I farm all the time. As to your points i agree and do think long comments show many points and a valid side of the story. It does fend trolls off and makes them look bad. I just didn't agree with the original commenters post and decided to use his style in his comment against him because again, it's not his choice as to how people do this even though it is a completely legitment part of this game.

You do know that once there is a level difference of 5 or more the amout of damage you do drecreases and the targets get more HP and do more damage? It's still easy when you have 2 ore more people, but it's not quite like you think..
-
My understanding from most posts/videos I have seen about the cave is that the mobs exit in a cluster that gets dropped before it can get a round off, damage decrease or not.
-
meh, wiping the cave is pretty easy solo. When the battle breaks out, or you get an event is when you really start wishing people were around.

replay of the year.

ya maybe a little time would be productive lol.
