Warlock - Yes or No?

I typically play as a Titan and my girlfriend plays as a Hunter. Respectable choice indeed... But she REFUSES to play as a Warlock because the Glide most definitely is not very helpful unlike Double (or even Triple) Jump and Lift. For those that play as a Warlock, what do you have to say about it? (I've tried playing as one basically since launch but can't handle the unbalancing from Lift to Glide...)

  • Glide is awesome. I even downgraded from Blink back to Glide because it was amazing. I can't imagine how anyone would be happy with a mere double or triple jump when you can gracefully glide across the skies. I may have to position a little more to get up to a higher vantage point (the one scout enemy tactics patrol on Venus comes to mind) but Glide is the superior movement type. A superior movement type for the more civilized and best class one might say (I kid! I kid!) but I just switched over from Void to Sun (so I can max them both) and for the few seconds I was without my Glide, I was a sad Warlock indeed.

  • I love the Voidwalker, Glide is actually quite good at getting you around, however, when you unlock Blink, that is a real game changer. Teleporting from cover to cover, using it to beam just above your enemies than suddenly dropping on their heads with an energy draining punch that fully restores your shields. The grenade types are pretty good as well, there is a Homing grenade that locks on two separate enemies, a vortex that is great for bogging down choke points. The cluster grenade is great for both individual bosses and the screaming hordes that charge at you. Kill any enemy with any grenade or punch, and you can turn them into a grenade and they explode themselves, causing an awesome domino effect, or you can switch it up to energy drain to charge your shields or your nova bomb faster. Its a great class, however it is a 'glass cannon' A great damage dealer who can use abilities in quick succession with the right build.... but from a defensive standpoint it is probably the weakest class.

  • I would say that you guys are probably mistiming the second activation of glide. Rather than a double jump like the hunter (activating it at the highest point of your first jump) you need to rapidly double tap glide right at the start to get the large vertical boost. Being able to tap it again to fall, then again to reactivate the glide, allows for some incredible flexibility and agility.

  • I'm warlock with void and sun complete I plan play sun in solo/coop and void in versus... Sun (my favorit !) : have an reraise, cool in tough situation and under radiance you can have some shield+, can stop in the air or have 2 gernade and you can littreraly "poop" orbes for yours friends at each kill (sweet with rocket launcher on weak group of ennemies like titan do with there AOE) Void : Nova is an insta-kill aoe like wipe full team to close each others, an it can be trowing like a rocket launcher at range. very reliable But I have luck by buying the Exotic body engram last weekend and I got a body who allow me to have grenade ready at each respawn and mixed with the ability to have 2 grenade is pretty awsome and if a super kill you you can re-raise and get you payback ;)

Glide is great for suppressive strafing. Warlock in general is a pretty solid class. If you unlock the sunsinger upgrade that allows you to fire while gliding you'll pretty much be an airborne, grenade bomber.

  • I haven't tested it but it seems like the height on glide is better than the other classes based on occasionally having my body stuck places for respawn count that teammates couldn't reach. Also for Sunsinger the intial speed boost skill for it gives me a ton of mobility to get in and out of situations quick. I haven't played the other classes but I couldn't imagine running hand cannon on my lock without glide.

  • I play as a warlock every time I get an upgrade my jump/glide changes a little. I can jump really high now and really fast. And also air movement is really quick to.

  • As a Warlock I jump way higher than any of my friends who are Titan or Hunter. So, I'm a little confused as to why you would feel this particular feature would limit you. In fact, trying other classes made me feel much more restricted movement-wise. Both subclasses have great control over their jumps. I highly recommend them all-around.

    • I find that Glide is INCREDIBLY useful from a PvE standpoint, enemies oftentimes have a difficult time striking a Gliding target.

    • I'm surprised this many people replied... I actually have to thank all of you. I played as a Warlock in the beta but lost my love for it for whatever reason... Now, I actually WANT to play as a Warlock (and won't delete it switching back and forth between Hunter as my other two slots are filled...).

    • Couldn't disagree more, I love to float around like a space wizard and wasn't to fond of the other abilities.

    • Sunsinger subclass, that alone my friend makes this class beyond worth playing. I had my doubts at first, thinking void walker was more powerful and versatile, but after nearly upgrading the entire skill tree for Sunsinger Ice discovered that the amount of ass whooping you can deal out with radiance is quite remarkable; both in PVP and PVE. It takes a little getting used to, as you'll feel a bit naked without the nova bomb at first, but once you get used to what Radiance has to offer you can immediately see how the Warlock is a pretty awesome class to play when compared to the other two; which are equally cool in their own ways. The glide jump also gets a nice upgrade in Sunsinger that allows you to get an initial speed boost when double tapping the jump button real quick. This in combination with the radiance special which allows you to throw out many solar grenades, which when upgraded via another skill in the tree, will engulf enemies in flames and burn them after pass through the grenades. Long story short, that wizard didn't come from the moon, you are the damn wizard to end all wizards. Enjoy!

    • That Glide is pretty boss...super boss actually. Just activate it at the height of the jump. Also Blink kicks ass, saved me from getting blasted as those Titans or Hunters just...float around.

      • The glide jump takes practice, but I've seen many a Warlock float above a firefight and get a kill before he lands. The real power of the Warlock is their reduced cooldowns (from what I can tell), so their damage output tends to be higher. If you can master the glide, or tough it out until you get blink, Warlock can be crazy good.

      • Glide is actually very useful as a sunsinger. The balanced glide gives you speed and turning control

      • I knew right from the start, even before I really looked into the classes, that I'd be playing the Warlock first, and I have to say that I absolutely love the playstyle of the main subclass, the Voidwalker. I've started a second character. Back in the beta I started a Titan too, and the Lift did take a bit of getting used too, but as always, it takes practice. Now that I'm using the teleport on my Warlock, I can imagine that switching back to my second character, a Defender Titan (which uses an ability very similar to Lift) would take some practice, but it'll still be worth it.
