I don't think you guys know what the story was suppose to be Yes, it is suppose to last 1O years but let's focus on Destiny itself It's story for this single installment was nowhere near satisfactory It was very short and didn't expand on its own content Let's start at the beginning You wake up and fight through a wave of Fallen to get out I thought "ok this was a pretty good intro" but then Bungie failed to suck us into the world of Destiny There was no setup You're basically thrown into the world and told to do whatever a flying ball tells you to do Bungie had such a good chance to fill our minds with a rich and creative world but they failed to do that Missions are bland "go here and shoot that" missions which ultimately add up to a short and shallow story Even if this short story is to be continued by DLCs and later titles, the story mechanics need major work It's doesn't go in depth at all They just expect you to go along with whatever they say without questioning any loose ends or anything There are about 3O minutes worth of cutscenes which doesn't quench your thirst to know about the world of Destiny at all Your character is a mindless drone with no personality that just goes wherever he/she is told and does whatever the Ghost tells him/her to do Speaking of which, the Ghost is empty as the voice that plays him It just serves as lazy exposition with no personality or depth The reason Cortana was so successful was because she played an active role in the plot You actually cared about her whereas the Ghost is just there to tell you what to do and where to go He's only there when needed There are practically no supporting characters and what little there are, have no personality This leads to a rather empty and unfulfilling world The lack of depth really turns me off from the game Even worse is that Bungie really stressed this PvE thing over the multiplayer which led everyone to believe that this part of the game was going to be the biggest and most immersive part of the game too But it ended up being as bland as a COD story Also, tone The toony happy go lucky attitude of the game really derails from that post apocalyptic world of Destiny And they can't maintain the epic feel of it either It's very inconsistent and I have no idea what I'm suppose to be feeling half the time Grimore is a terrible way to tell the story No one wants to read the story online They want to experience it first hand in all the awe Destiny has to offer They should make smaller side missions which expands on each part of the game like side missions that have you exploring the Fallen or side missions which have you diving into the past of the Darkness The worst part is that Bungie purposely held back on this project They already had DLCs planned before the release of the game They purposely held stuff back like Resputin so that they would have content "later on" They should've given it their all and then come up with more content as they think of it And for those of you who think that DLCs are going to save the game, I laugh at you Bungie has been working on this for 5 years You really think that everything is going to be all better after they release small content that they've only been working on for a few months? Overall, if the story is suppose to be told over 1O years but each installment is as bland as this one, it won't be a good story The whole 1O year story will add up to as much content as one Fallout game Also, make the enemies different Besides their looks and names, they have have the same weapons, attack style, and overall play strategies And the locations too They're just different in looks Make one planet really obscure with traps around every corner Make another map focused on verticality with different techniques to survive Weapons too They're all bullet weapons with no different mechanics I'd like to see guns that have tracking rounds or that fires a stream Vehicles need work too I would add vehicles that have multi person slots since this is such a "social game" Or even flying ones Just more diversity in general Finally exotics When I find an exotic, I don't feel like I accomplished much It's just a gun with more damage or something It should have awesome feature like firing explosive rounds or firing black holes Same concept with armor too Now I know not everyone is disappointed but as you can see, a lot of the forum is not happy and even you know that the story needs some work I'm just disappointed that they had 5 years to work on this with the biggest promises I've seen from a game, only to blow it TL;DR The story, regardless of whether or not it's taking place over 1O years, is far too short for one installment of the game and it needs improving But besides that, the world is pretty cool and the multiplayer is fun Just my opinion on how the story could be fixed

  • I completely agree with you man, it was pretty disappointing. I think maybe playing with my friends with make this game last a decent amount of time for me but they need to add in a lot more content that might not ever come to make it worth it. Oh and you said the story was as bland as a COD story, honestly, it was way worse than COD.

  • While you do make a lot of valid points despite all that the game is still fun and they have 10 years to improve it I would hold off on the harsh reviews until at least a year has passed if the game still hasn't changed or gotten better then by all means rip it apart. But until then give it a fighting chance I personally have played and closed tested a few games that started out horribly but got better as time progressed as the devs listened to the community and made different approaches to the game instead of posting angry taunts and reviews why don't you voice what you would like to see changed and improved upon to the devs, admins and who ever else would be worth bringing its attention to. And personally I like that there is no background on my titan it lets me make him who ever I want him to be instead of what the game wants him to be and I like that, he could be me if I wanted. But anyway if you have a problem with the game maturely voice your opinion to the devs and who ever else it might be worth mentioning to about your concerns and the concerns of others maybe it will pay off. The game I play warframe that is what we do, we voice our opinions and personally talk with the creators of the game on a daily basis to get stuff we want in game and they actually listen and trust me when I say that the game was horrible in closed beta I mean god awful but I stuck with it voiced my concerns and opinions all the way into open beta and even up now in the present a lot of the problems were fixed the game is beautiful and a work in progress very fun and enjoyable to play because the devs listened to those who voiced their opinions. A lot of the weapons and a few warframes ( combat suit you use in game ) were made by us the community and even though there is not much of a story at the moment because its being developed it leaves lots of fun for us that play it because we can speculate and wonder about the lore and background of the game. And we create our own lore I think one of the community's players might even get a character and story line he created put in game because its that stinking good the dude made the art, story, audio, missions everything same stuff has happened with weapons and warframes to they are so good they get put in game so hopefully it will happen with him to.

  • I'm in the same boat and disappointed I spent 103.00 dollars on the limited edition for the PS4 The game is reparative and even crucible Is the same . Open world game PVP with vehicles of war Could help . The AI : fallen , vex, cabal are all the same have that figured out In the first 2 hours of gaming. There is no interaction with the worlds you are in No wild creatures / animals for a next gen Game and the amount of money that was invested and the Hype and time put in I am Disappointed. As a customer Not happy with the product I bought .

  • You summed up exactly how I feel about this game. I was hoping for it to be a lot more epic on the pve front and it really under delivers.... Same missions different locale. Guns all feel the same.... Bosses have an absurd amount of health, bungie that doesn't make a boss battle challenging... It makes it a tedious chore! Lower bosses hp and give them new mechanics that test a players skill more than their patience. The light system, I just don't... I just don't like. Grinding through a boring strike in the hope of something better is again tedious and that is what this game feels like. I will stick with it because paying £50 for a game I feel I am obliged to invest my time into it and who knows the future may be better for this game. But I highly doubt it.

I've got to say I wasn't too big on the story, but for the most part I'm a huge fan of the game! I can see what you mean on some things but the one magical thing to me is the strikes. I love doing the strikes because I have the dream that one day I'm going to get some kind of amazing game changing weapon or piece of armor but so far it has been to no avail. I've already invested roughly 48 hours into this game and have received only one legendary item I can use. I'm currently working to perfect my titan (light level 25) but I've received legendary boots for the Hunter class and a shotgun (the Comedian) which I use currently. Not to build a pun but I feel as if the game is laughing at me because in the 50+ strikes I've committed myself to I still haven't received that amazing gear that everyone else sports in the tower and in the crucible. Don't get me wrong regardless I enjoy the game thoroughly, but drop rates need to be fixed at least in my case, grinding for long hours and not receiving anything for it is quite the turn off. If I get something valuable in the near future, great! It'll make me want to play more but if I don't I guess I'm still going to play just for the aspect of getting that gear but in all seriousness this has got to change.

  • Let me be a serious person and not these immature trolls for one minute. Less headache for you. Story was linear. We can agree on that. As for the mysterious stranger, she/it appeared like three times. As for leaving certain things, we have a fallen threat which cleans up pretty well, but what of the Hive? They seem to just fade out of existence. I know we can expect DLC but a cliff hanger would've been nice? I also feel the same way sometimes with the toony-non-apocalyptic feel. You simply put my thoughts into words. Something that bugged me was the enemy patterns repeating, just like you. The planet looks seem fine to me imo. Vehicles will come in the future I hope. Regardless, when with other people, it's fun. I did get satisfaction moments though such as defeating a strike mission boss for the first time or defeating the Vex heart.

  • I bet you were one of the players who spent the months before release bitching about everything wrong with the game. Then when the game released, you still found ways to pick out its "flaws" Here is a grand idea. If you dislike the game so much that you had to write a novel on the forums, why don't you just stop playing the game? OMG NO WAY!? COULD IT BE THAT SIMPLE!?

They want the game to be changed so they like it and then us that do like it don't anymore. They can fix some things, but not everything. Better story. New missions > less scanning. More gun types. Primary(P), Secondary(S) and Heavy(H) Elements - Solar, Arc, Void, Kinetic + Rimelight(ICE), Craglight(STONE), Draughtlight(WIND) -> Fallen Scattershot(S), Fallen Seeker(P), Lasers(K)(H), Torch hammer(S+H Variants), Fusion sniper(P), Liquid plasma caster/mortar(H), Voidmaser/Arcblaster/Flamethrower(S) More life too, a dark guardian slayer that can appear on any misson/patrol, Npcs outside the tower. (animals wouldn't fit in very well, lest just assume the last city has farms for food) game is great but, needs more work really

  • I particularly love the part in your rant where you say the DLC is already made, then in a later paragraph you state that they are putting it together in only a few months. Yes, Destiny could take a few pages from Borderlands when it comes to making some of the weapons more unique. I really like the story. Looking at these forums I might be in the minority, but I think Bungie did a great job. Yes, there is room for improvement, but still a great game.

  •
The worst part is that Bungie purposely held back on this project They already had DLCs planned before the release of the game They purposely held stuff back like Resputin so that they would have content "later on" They should've given it their all and then come up with more content as they think of it
Exactly! Winds me up that some people can't see how they're being fleeced by this growing trend of DLC nonsense, DLC should NEVER be considered before a game launches, let alone worked on and pre-sold. Utter lunacy that people applaud game developers for this madness, you should all be up in arms over it. As you say, in 10 years time this might be the size of Fallour at launch. And that's the problem right there.
