This needs a speedy and definitive answer from Bungie, Monday is unfortunately a deadline. Next gen preorders are getting the shaft due to digital preorder policies. Neither network will supply refunds on digital preloaded games normally. Xbox.com is allowing this for some users but since this is outside their SOP there is risk of issues such a accounts being barred from purchasing or redownloading content if something goes wrong in the process (that's apparently how their normal special case refunds work according to the CSR I talked with, it's a one-time, you-never-want-this-again type deal). Even in the case of a successful refund the lack of preorders or a Digital Guardian edition mean 360/One users pay more for less. PSN's refund cycle is uncertain pending approval and will not be confirmed until after the game's release, leaving players in an odd limbo. This is truly a great offering and I appreciate the sentiment by Bungie, but the imbalance with offerings between consoles and the poor timing with the preorder/release is harmful to a fair number of customers and potentially even borderline with consumer protection laws in some countries due to the inability to change orders in a reasonable manner after the new offerings.

  • For reals. They announce this the Friday afternoon before release, then ignore all posts like this clamoring for answers over the weekend, and come Monday morning when the game begins to get released in New Zealand, technically Xbox is not allowed to issue refunds by then. So we really REALLY need an official response from Bungie over the weekend, in the next 36 hours.

  • That is the only reason why I havn't spoken to MS support about a refund. If anything goes wrong on their end and they mark the Xbox One digital guardian version I have already preloaded as being unavailable because I asked for a refund on it then that would be bad news. So I am sticking with my preload now. Activision and Bungie should have announced this offer at least a week before preloads became available on both systems. This would have given us the CUSTOMER a choice if we wanted to stick with physical copies or go the digital route with the incentive of having it on both last and current gens. I am actually thinking that they did this last minute announcement on purpose, they announced the offer yesterday which by then companies would have been starting to take money and get the physical copies ready for despatch. They also knew that preloading had been open for approximately a week so that would have given us little time to speak to MS or PS customer service to sort out getting our refunds for our digitals we purchased. Shame on both Bungie and Activision by with holding this information till the last few days. Shame on you

I honestly doubt they did it last minute on purpose. I would bet it took them this long to get the deal worked out with both Sony and Microsoft so they could announce it. It would be far from the first time. That doesn't mean they don't need to follow up though.

Hmmm I am not so sure on that. They would have been looking into doing this for a while now and Bungie would have known way before this announcement when the preloading was going to start. Somebody with some sense at Bungie would have easily seen the problem this would cause if they announced after preloading began. Us lot in this thread and part of these forums are just a small minority of gamers who are getting Destiny. The vast majority of people will not come to these forums and I bet they don't look up any upto date announcements on a game. I bet these people who have already preloaded Xbox one/PS4 versions will not be too happy when they find out they could have upgraded from last gen for free. Also another thing is that the vast majority of people who have already preordered the physical Xbox 360/PS3 versions and even some have their copies in their hands now will not even know about this offer. This offer seems to me to be a token gesture for them to say we are for the gamers but the very late timing of this is saying something totally different to me. A couple of examples where cross gen announcements were known way in advance of a games release: Cod Ghosts season pass from last gen to current gen for free was announced on the 23 August 2013, loads of time before the games release in November Also the same for Assassins creed Black flag season pass offer from last gen to current gen, ample notice on that. This one 4 days notice. And because of that this will make more money for Bungie and Activision. Why will this be? Well the majority of people will not know about this offer until it gets advertised by Sony and Microsoft on their marketplaces Tuesday minimum. That is too late for them as they already have their physical last gen copy opened. In the UK you can't return an open game for a full refund, you can only trade it in or sell it on a site like Ebay. So these people will go well thats a nice offer I will sell it on for a loss and buy the digital version to get the Xbox one/PS4 version for free. Doesn't matter though as Activision and Bungie have the sale from that physical copy and then they will get the sale from the digital version and then there are the people who have just got the physicals for Xbox one/PS4 who havn't got a clue about this offer. Call me cynical but 4 days notice. Hmmmm

  •
This one 4 days notice.
4 days notice but they announced it very late in the day Friday, are out of the office on Saturday and Sunday, then are just back on Monday. For people who have questions about it or want to know if it goes both ways, there is no one to answer their questions until Monday morning, about 15 hours before the game releases. The timing on this was really bad. Not something you'd expect from a company with the track record of Bungie.

  • Yeah so in reality 4 days notice has gone to hours because of the weekend. What makes me laugh is that I have had a look on their twitter and people are asking the same thing to them and they are not replying, only an MS support rep is replying to a few about contacting their customer support. So Bungie can't be bothered to reply to these questions themselves even though they can post about a load of Ghost editions and a morale trip. Way to go for prioritising the important things. I bet if I went to a midnight release tonight at my local Game and asked all the people there if they knew about this offer they would all say no.
