Call me a cynic, but I think Christian themes are what's good for selling a product. Why wouldn't someone use the most common archetype and simple story pattern in the largely Christian influenced cultures of the biggest portion of the gaming and entertainment community? It automatically creates familiarity with the product, no matter what your personal views, because the story is so ubiquitous. For those who are relgious, any and all symbolism, intentional or not, becomes a personal connection to the product.

  • Bungie is seeking to make us Dependant on it's game. So yes why not make a game a from of worship to it's self. Soon we will be calling it Destiny Cult. (The game all ready has one of them)

  • In my opinion, you are correct, but I think it is sort of the other way around. I think the themes of the stories which are most appealing to people are somewhat universal. In my opinion when the stories for Christianity and other religions were created, they played on those themes which already existed in order to attract people the same way that writers do when making video games, books, movies, etc. I don't think that is is necessarily a copy of the religious stories which makes something popular, I think that the religious stories are popular because they followed the same pattern which existed before the religions did.

  • Because I highly doubt story tellers are like "omg, we should use this one religions scripture as a basis for our game because people will have a familiarity to it and buy it because it reminds them of their beliefs!!" I think it's more so there are only so many bases to stories that every story ever told can be boiled down to and I hate to break it to you but your beliefs fall into the same line... you know, since they're repurposed stories anyway.
