One thing I don't entirely understand yet that I know should be public information already;
Bungie's choice of wording on this matter has led me to believe that you are required to have a full team of 6 just to even attempt a raid. While I understand it may be inadvisable, can you technically attempt a raid with less than 6 people or would you functionally be locked out? This is a big concern for me as I am primarily a solo gamer who I only friends people I know IRL and most of my friends are not getting Destiny. Depending on the answer I have considered starting a small lone wolf clan after Destiny releases but that would be much later in the future.
Please only respond with official, confirm-able answers, I've heard too much speculation already.

The best answer I can give is even if you wanted to, you can't. If you look back at the beta raid we got to play, players were put into a grouping system to meet the group requirements to play the raid. The fact that you need 6 to start the raid and advance through the raid only supports this system being implemented. That said, it would be possible to lone wolf it, if your group left the raid. Another bit of info we know is the raid is saved until Tuesday the next week. This means that, in theory, you could enter with a random group and do whatever you wanted. The reason I believe this can be achieved is because it fallows their goal of the game being for any gamer out there, with any play style. That's the most I have for you for, I'll have to do more research on raids to get a better idea. I tried to only use theories that had some sort of evidence to back it up. At this point almost all we have is speculation but its more of a puzzle than baseless possibilities.

There was no raid in the beta, what you're thinking of is a strike. I had the same misunderstanding myself. Your logic is sound, but I don't think it properly applies
-
Ah that is true, thank you for the clarification. Although I do see the system being implemented for raids.
-
I don't think it will. I seem to remember somewhere Bungie explicitly stating that raids would not use a matchmaking system, that you have to form your own fireteam.
-
Yeah your right, you can lone wolf it or have a 4 person fireteam but you WILL have trouble, they highly recommend having a 6 person fireteam for it
-
I'm ok with trouble, I'll get past the trouble given enough time, I just generally don't like interacting with people online any further than "bang you're dead." I have many reasons for being a primarily solo gamer, so if it's true that you can attempt a solo raid I'm game for it and I'm willing to deal with the consequences.
-
You can check old post on here, that's where I most of my info from, sorry if you had a bad experience online I'm always meeting new ppl online but I can understand wanting to keep it solo, ppl online are idiots sometimes but I'm a pretty decent player if you ever decide to run a group
-
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind if I ever get serious about a clan.
-
Knights of the black dawn if ur interested lol
-
Well if you ever decide to I have one going already, even if you don't join me and my clan are here to help
-
Hmm then more research is needed. Thank you.

If it helps your search I believe that information (if it is accurate) came from a mail sack answer. At last, that's the setting I remember seeing it in. I just don't have the time to go hunting for that sort of thing.
-
Any clues help. If I want to give helpful advise and correct answers, I'll need all the info I can get.
-
There were no raids in the Beta. Those were strikes
-
I should clarify my first sentence. I ment if you wanted to start one alone, you can't.
-
Until the game is released we wont know for sure if you can go in alone, but this is a skill based game and if you are able to go in alone it will take 6 times longer or more to clear enemies, defeat bosses and possibly solve puzzles, solo play always has its limits in these games,
-
I'm ok with that if that's the case, I just want to know. Since they already released the information of "needing" 6 players I figured it wouldn't be too much to ask for some clarification, but it seems that no one has come across any explicit answers in this regard.
-
I already said that I understand it may be inadvisable. I don't care how hard it is, I just want to know how it works, functionally speaking. Will the games mechanics allow a team of less than 6 to attempt a raid?
-
I would say no Bungie has said it will take a team of 6 players not random people they have to be on your friends list

-
I believe the most accurate way to describe a less than 6 man raid is this "YOU. WILL. DIE. LIKE SERIOUSLY."
-
You need full team of 6. They have said it is impossible to do with even 5. Not sure what makes it impossible though.
-
If I ha to guess the puzzle consists of six pieces and each player has to be doing something at the same time to open the doors
-
Maybe a set of six linked locks?
-
This sounds like the most likely answer if the 6 player requirement is true, but please, no more speculation.
