Is anyone else hoping that we will someday be able to visit the Last City somehow? I had visions of walking through the city to find my favorite shady vendor, pushing my way past citizens in various states of existence, from poverty to wealth; experiencing the sense of desperation and hope displayed through the medium of architecture, the contrast of poorly constructed shacks surrounding the perimeter of the City with the skyscrapers of the densely populated center, of sound, hundreds of people talking, haggling, shouting, and other sounds which cities make, of citizens walking by, lounging around, talking with vendors, buying food, etc., of art, whether graffiti scrawled on the side of a shop, or statues and fountains adorning the governmental headquarters of the city. I had hopes of knowing that which I was protecting, of knowing those for whom I fought, of feeling that it was all for something and worth something. The tower really is an Ivory Tower, from which the city is seen only as an Idea. The Speaker tells of frightened children; who sees their fear? Who walks among them and smells the bitter tang of uncertainty and waiting, feels the snap of tension from the seething mass of humanity which depends solely upon you for their continued existence; and who extends their hand to quell their fear, to calm their hearts and show them that We are here, and We are fighting for them? I dearly wished to explore the city for that reason... After all, why did I become a Guardian?

Edited by Haze33: 9/9/2014 12:43:46 AMIt's really too bad that Destiny isn't a VR game, but that tech doesn't exist yet so... whatever.
this is sarcasm
it would be nice to go to the last safe city so you know what your really fighting for rather then a boring tower.
-
I think this is a possibility for Destiny 2: Destiny's Child, but I think they limited their scope a bit for this release.
-
The devs mentioned that there will be numerous updates so with all those eventually the city should become exlporable and such
-
I totally agree. Im hoping they open it up more. Doesnt have to be the whole city. But a little more then just the tower. It gives us Guardian a Idea of what we are fighting for! If it opened it up to the level of how Mass Effect did with some of the cities.
-
Could be dlc I hope
-
Bungie pls
-
I agree, I wouldn't mind having more motivation to go kick ass. Maybe in a future expansion? Perhaps the House of Devils will invade The Gap again. After all, we did kill their Prime Servitor.

This has nothing to do with the main post, but I think you guys will find it helpful: All Gold Chest & Dead Ghost Locations + List of All Current Farming Methods + All Trading Card Redemption Codes http://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/69358543

I was honestly quite dissapointed at the inability to explore the city during the alpha. didnt know I'd be dissapointed about the lack of explorable places in the rest of the game either...
-
Yeah I wish they will when my friend first told me about destiny I thought you could do that
-
This issue is actually talked about in a lot of reviews, and If bungie could do anything to incorporate this, that would be sweet.
-
I think that would be to much for the FIRST DEstiby hopefully they will add it in the second one.
-
Though I agree it may be that the dead can never rejoin the living..
-
I'm guessing none of you paid attention to the last couple of lines at the end of the mission where the stranger said we will venture down their and the camera panned down to the city.
-
i think this is an awesome idea, but we have to keep in mind that we are not (only) defending The City, we are Gaurdians of our Ghosts. and only our city by proxy.
-
I have a feeling that "The Dark Below" DLC refers to the city.
-
I think bungie is at odds of making a shooter and not wanting to commit to this MMO thing. Being able to walk around villages where you don't shoot things is a waste of resources to bungie. That's because they only view this game as a shooter. But something like walking around the last city would GREATLY enhance the immersion of the world. Having a place people want to defend. Having a place people want to come back to.
-
Totally agree here. I loved poking around the ruins of the old cities on Venus and Mars, or the infrastructure on the moon. Bungie did an awesome job of making those ruins seem almost relatable. And eerie. One of the things I loved most about mass effect two was roaming omega, illium, tuchanka, and the citadel wards. You got a sense of what the state of the universe was. Though I love the game as is, I'm hoping they decide to add the ability to explore at least part of the city at some point. It would make a vast difference.
-
Apparently you became a guardian to deploy ghosts and shoot waves of aliens ad nauseam. I'm still having a good time with that, but I was really hoping for a more immersive experience. Unfortunately, I really don't see this game materializing into what many of us hoped it would be. I hope Bungie proves me wrong.

Yaaaaasss gaga yaaaasssss

I think we will get to explore The Last City in the next game. I hate to say it but making the game available to the past-gen consoles probably limited what they could do in this game.

Edited by Vaneera: 9/20/2014 7:11:31 PMI'm not sure we'd be welcome, after all we've been pelting their city with the bodies of Guardians flinging themselves off the tower for some time.
-
I'd love to go visit the palace of the royal family of the city, or maybe a downtown base of dead orbit, or FWC.
-
If only the game was like the concept art... *SIGH*
