my theory is that the darkness corrupted each species to become evil...
like i saw an interview where someone said that the fallen used to be a good species, and now are bad.
As for the Hive, the Darkness infected them into space zombies...

Ya! I remember that. It's on the enemy description as well. I guess I had never seen it in the light that you're explaining it, but that makes perfect sense. Very possible.
