I'm not being mean or a smart arse in anyway but how do you use the point effectively? I found it quite useless unless directed at a person.

I saved a Hunter who was getting mobbed by a shit-tonne of Fallen, but in order to do so I ran my Scout Rifle dry and had to resort to punching their faces in while he extracted himself from the press and supported my Titan from mid range. After we finished wiping them out I started to continue on my way out of the area. He jumped in front of me and I started to go around him, then he jumped in front of me again and pointed over my shoulder, when I turned around I saw 3 or 4 other Guardians swarming the Devil Walker that I hadn't noticed dropping in because of all of the flashes of arc from me punching the other Fallen to death. It was the first public event that I engaged in, and I would have missed it entirely if that Hunter hadn't pointed it out. After that I figured out how to use the gestures and led someone to the Gold Chest in the ravine, directed another player to some general loot chests in another area (can't remember the name of it) and was also directed toward an epic view of the City in the Tower by another Guardian. I found it to be quite useful. Significantly more useful than waving. Although the Hunter and I did wave goodbye after we defeated that Devil Walker.

Hmm interesting. I personally never found use for it people just ignore me. I did dance and wave alot.

I noticed a lot of people ignored me as well, and I would have ignored the Hunter if he hadn't been so persistent, but I still think it can be effective. I think it will also be effective in Strikes and Raids when a team is attempting to battle plan behind cover in a tight situation. To be able to say "You, go over there" and point to where you want them to go will be a huge help in my opinion.
