When did I get so old?
I am 38 and I have been playing video games longer than most of you have been alive. I see everyone telling their age which seems to be the early 20s for the most part. Most everyone I know does not playing video games, but I have not been this excited about a game since Halo 2 or KOTOR. Anyone else in the same boat?

I just don't think the game will be as big or as epic as the developers have promised. And also having such ludicrously high expectations for games that looked epic and revolutionary before release like Resi Evil 6, Titan Fall, Watch Dogs, and FFXIII which all turned out to be rather underwhelming has tempered my expectations for most games nowadays. There are very few good games out there, and even less challenging games, most games today it seems are dumbed-down and simplified to appeal to causal gamers and increase accessibility. I think Destiny won’t be that hard and I think the claim that a team of pro-gamers couldn’t beat the raid after 16 hours was PR to build up hype for the game and get people talking. We already know that the claimed $500 million development cost was false, and that the game’s actual cost comes nowhere close to that. The more I think about Destiny the less I think it’s going to be that good. The character customization seems shallow and Guardians don’t feel unique, the tower is conspicuously devoid of anything interesting, the semi-open environment in Old Russia was not as big as I was expecting and now we learn that there are only 4 of those environments on 4 planets in the whole game, Strikes we have been told are not soloable, and the raid (of which there is only one in the game on release-day) is capable of being completed in only a few hours, making me think that the raids probably aren’t as hard as we’ve been led to believe.

Am 40 and will never stop. I enjoy playing games more than turning off my brain and drooling at some TV show. I will jump on games with my kids and there friends can't believe there dad is playing... and beating them! LOL

I'm 26 and been gaming forever. But my dad has everyone I've seen so far on this forum beat... He is going on 61 and is right now working his way through the new Wolfenstein! I love the positive threads on here! Keep em coming!

1 ReplyNot related to Destiny but i realized I was 2 old 2 play at a video game con. I played some smash bros against some kid about eight years old or so. (He kicked my ass.) He was paying as Samus and at the end said, "They should make a GUY Samus." I told him, "In about five years you're going to be really glad Samus is a girl."

33 year old here lol I think we are the veterans No hoppety hoppety jumping crouching nade tossing people You dont do that in real life (atleast not me im in the army ) Just decent players that sometimes think back at the days of long gone

Coming from the era of Atari XE, my first system, I've had many consoles and many, many hours of fun. Still, I can't think of any game I've been more exited about than Destiny. It's truly something else and I wait patiently for 9. september now. Warlock is love. Warlock is life. Gaming is a safehouse for me, as I'm dealing with heavy depression, social axiety and some compulsive thoughts. Not knowing many people and fewer gamers in real life, it has been nice to do co-op and help others in various games through the years. As I am not competetive at all, games like Destiny are great to just relax, have fun and maybe be involved with other people. Very nice to see so many 30+ players here. Make my thoughts around gaming at my age much easier. See you guys and gals ingame!

36 I bump Marty O'Donnell and Minecraft music in my ride like it's 90's gangsta rap. I still get those same looks from older folk as ride by them, only they are hearing violins and piano keys now. Ha ha!

You got old when you pointed it out :/ Also, thank you for your years of playing video games. Because of you and your aged peers, there are loads of great developers that have enjoyed the opportunity to make amazing video games for our community. Thanks to you, future generations of developers (and our current generation) have been given a strong foundation to build their IP upon. As developers like bungie have displayed (with authority), their craft improves drastically with time. How much greater of a game may destiny become 10 years after release - as you near 50 years old?

As a guy that will be the big 60 in Dec. , I don't feel old playing video games. I do feel my age when I work on my car or go up a flight of stairs. I think playing games keeps my mind young. I know I don't play great but who cares I don't , I just love to play. As far as my friends go they don't understand why I play. They think only young people play to that I say you don't know what your missing. After a day at work I feel very young when I turn on my xbox360 or my ps4 and sit down and play. So please is it time to play Destiny ?

1 ReplyI only feel too old when I am standing in the line at the store fighting with my six year old about who has the better gear/character/weapon on skyrim or who has more Pokemon, or who beat a game first while another parent or the cashier is looking at me like I am an idiot. The only thought that gets me through is " I wish you would pick up a controller and step into a battlefield match with me."

I'm 36 and the last time I was this excited for a game was Everquest 2. After spending many years on PC games and MMO's I had to kick the habit. Now I look forward to games that I can turn on and spend a few hours on and not worry about omg if I'm not there they won't be able to do the raid! Now I enjoy playing a few hours and spending the rest of the time with my family.

10 RepliesYeah I feel like a big kid to and being 49 there are not many gamers my age. Also I have a wife that has little interest in something she considers a waste of time. The only time I have been this up for a game launch was SWG, MXO and Halo. I'm guessing we need a support group or some kind of outreach program lol.

2 RepliesI win, I'm a devout gamer and have been for many years. Im 52 and still getting a buzz out of new games like Destiny:) From my days of playing on the Amstrad CPC 64 and Robocop , to Commodore 16 and 64 with flight sims lol. I have had virtually every console and have just cancelled my World of Warcraft account after 10 years of addiction to that game. Im really hoping the Destiny Universe will expand and become a massive game in the coming years. Damn it , I will keep playing games until I cant hold a controller. Long live Destiny :)

29 Here i can't wait for destiny not since the halo series (343 games aside 4 was ok) have i been excited about release day, all i can say is thank jebus i don't have to type away for hours like i used to on my zx84 to play destiny that WOULD definitely take some doing. 32 here. My wife me married knowing damn well that I play video games in my spare time! Its how I relax and disconnect from my worries for a bit! Now if I could just get her to play something other than COD :P
