Depends on some variables really. Rolling solo, wife/gf, kids, bros/sis. Budget restrictions? White water rafting is always a good time if your into stuff like that. Do you surf, camp, hike, or are museums more your type of thing? DC is a good place for history and museums. Motorcycling through the Blue Ridge Parkway is fun. Staying in a cabin in Asheville NC is something I always personally enjoyed. Last time I went there, several years ago, it wasn't overrun by tourists and is georgeous when the leaves are changing.

Oh yeah NC is my home state and I love the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia, I went to DC once and will never go back. I have stayed up in Boone, Blowing Rock, and Mount Saint Aarry areas. I have been to Massanutten, VA and that place was the best mountain vacation I ever went on. I have stayed at Leatherwoods in NC and that was, ok. Thats more for a quiet person, not adventure. And I have been wanting to go white water rafting for some time, but I can't find anyone to go with my age or friends/family.
