They have created something that goes into that "empty space" it came out at launch. The Xbox headset adapter. As for kinect chat i hope not even when you calibrate them right they sound awful.

I did, I searched for something specific for my headset though just incase it wasn't compatible don't try to start bashing me man. It's still a good idea for people with broken mics ect

Try putting a gaming headset over the headset you got with it at launch, you'll understand why I use the Kinect mic! Extremely uncomfortable and the volume doesn't go loud enough (for my ears anyway) as for Kinect sounding bad, I agree but it's the only solution for me communicating successfully atm whilst being able to use my headset so I can't win.
