I too would like to know as I'm looking at upgrading to a PS4 in a couple of weeks from my PS3 and I want to know if I will be able to keep my chars and stuff.

  • Why would you want to keep your characters? Either the game is drastically incomplete due to it being a beta and thus you missed the vast majority of everything.. or things are pretty much exactly the same which would thus give the quality of the game which the defense is (it's a beta), a massive decrease. You should very much hope that your beta experience is drastically different than the Destiny release, for all our sakes.

  • How is it a decrease? The game is solid as hell as-is..

  • Except it isn't. The story is extremely bland, there is quite honestly nothing there (hopefully only as of yet). Your max dialog is two words. You will in the entire beta say 2 words, 3 times. This is your personal interaction with the story. Abysmal. Further, the plotlines are.. jagged. There is no continual stream of progression, no flowing thought process. Instead it's.. end mission, tower, mission, end mission, tower mission. Repetitive, respawn, and wave-based mechanics are so prevalent that you can often have all the enemies respawn around you just as you've finished killing them and start picking up their drops (which are barely anything). The loot mechanics are completely destroyed, story missions will essentially result in you getting.. nothing of any value whatsoever. Vendors are essentially broken to the highest degree due to not really having any purpose for glimmer other than upgrades which only cost things on the high guns which you can't get unless you farm marks, because marks are not used through story missions, high-yield story missions or even bounties. And numerous other issues regarding plotlines, reward tables, and other such things. Characters are.. sparse in capability. There are only a handful of weapons, very limited abilities, essentially having a grenade, an ultimate and a melee attack, despite trying to indicate such characters in the plot and story and immersion as being incredibly powerful and warlocks as being capable of so many things (which we do not see). Subclasses are essentially the same minus one change and far more are needed if that's how replayable content is supposed to be achieved. Lore and immersion mechanics are minimal and methods of claiming further information lead to lore as either secondary or just a throw away thing because massive amounts of kills are needed for further entries, which are altogether infestimally small for the effort you put into getting said grimoire entries. THe lack of an ingame Grimoire or Codex-enhancement is also a major issue. And these are just some of the 100's of issues with the game. So either "It's A BETA" is the truth, or a game far below even it's minimal potential is what we're getting which will be an insult to them compared to Bungie's past triumphs as well as to you. This game even has issues that Halo never had which should be very obvious to deal with. The game also has an identity crisis. It is called an FPS with an open world experience imitating Borderlands (which was a bad game in terms of story mechanics and writing and implementation) by Bungie. But most call it an MMOFPS (it is not in any means but they call it that anyway), and some try to call it an RPG. Yet it has the mechanics of an MMO without the counters to make it balanced. Speaking of balance, in terms of over-difficulty, under-difficulty, scaling, and progression, balance is a major issue. So yes, I can only hope that this is NOT a representation of the final game, as every beta has always been.

Apparently you don't want "your game" to improve, and you also enjoy inferior mechanics and haven't experienced many high quality games to really compare from. While that is sad and I'd gladly give you a list of ones to expand your horizons with... You also apparently don't know how what beta testing is, and are playing a game for fun and trying to treat it as fine rather than searching out every issue as beta testing is meant to have.

  • Lol a beta test is for testing balance and server load. Seeing if people can do things too easily or if something is unbeatable by the average player. Looking for bugs. They don't need your opinion on story and gameplay. If they did, we'd be employed by them. They're professionals. We aren't.

Since my first year to this the twenty fifth year of my being in betas, the progression mechanics, lore design, immersion and other factors have always been highly important and necessary for analysis. The ones hear, which you've made it clear you are not really knowledgeable to understand the issues of, are very severe. As are the other issues and far more. once my account links properly I will put up a proper post in the feedback forums.

  • You've been beta testing since 1989?

I've been alive much longer, haven't you? I've played around 3,000 games in my lifetime, possibly more. Some of those started with Beta's. The main way to get into private betas is to have.. some reputation in the testing world. The people that clock 100's, or thousands of bugs every cycle and these include lore, plotline, contradictions and many other issues.

  • My question is not in regards to your age, but rather: If you have such a "reputation," why not just actually work on the games than complain on beta forums? Haven't seen a single positive post by your account.

  • There are a very large degree of people posting their opinions on positives, but very few posting the realistic analysis of the situation or concrete feedback or indications from testing. Which do we need more of? The latter. When the final comes out, then it will be time for the positive AND negative feedback all at once. As for why I don't do games, well I don't have the degree to do so and I don't want to toil for low appreciation.

For you, it'll be fine. Your destiny characters can even currently move from ps3 to ps4 and back again, just wherever you log in. Sadly, I think the OP might be screwed. Don't switch companies bro, PS4 all day. See this from 7/18's mail sack:
Claude Errera: Apparently, characters created on the PS4 are available when the same account logs in on a PS3. Am I allowed to say that? You’re allowed to say whatever you want, Mr. Errera. How are you today? You’re certainly looking well. Your question points to a very interesting truth about how Destiny will work. As you’ve discovered, as your Guardian evolves it will be able to travel from one generation of console to the next. Just like hopping worlds, you can use the same Guardian on Next Gen and Legacy Gen consoles – so long as you stay in the same system. Ergo, you can move from PlayStation to PlayStation and from Xbox to Xbox, but not across product lines. According to David Shaw, our self-professed Chief Pyrotechnical Officer, this was the plan all along, as we set out to build an adventure that would span generations. “Our service is built with flexibility in mind. As a player of Destiny, you have a Bungie account that’s bound to your PSN ID or your Xbox LIVE Gamertag, instead of a specific generation of device.”
• If they can make it so that if you have ANY beta account linked to your Bungie account, all beta rewards and such will be shared between future platform accounts of any type linked to the profile, that'd be good. I'm not going to buy a PS4.. it doesn't have anything worth buying for it and it won't until 2015's November and even then we don't even know if those are any good, still no quality exclusive RPG's for that matter. So the Xbox One is going to be my focus and using the PS3 should not penalize me if I used that for the beta, at least for this account.
