The mentality of some Xbox One owners suggests that they will play Destiny until the Master Chief Collection releases in November. Their gameplay investments will then be funneled into Halo's multiplayer. While Halo 2 was my favorite multiplayer game, I do not wish to get an Xbox One for access. Instead, I would rather get exclusive Destiny content on Playstation 4.
If you have chosen your console based upon other exclusive titles or system-specific perks, this thread does not apply to you. I am targeting an audience of those interested in Halo and Destiny only.
Under the reign of Bungie, Halo was a game changer in the pool competitive multiplayer games. It imprinted a new standard of quality of the FPS genre. It did this while being a console exclusive for Xbox--it could compete with the multi-platform, Call of Duty franchise. Halo would continue to excel beyond expectations of its audience until Bungie's contract with Microsoft ended after a decade.
As the dust settled, 343i took over Halo--with them, promising to mirror the success of previous installments developed by Bungie. 343i began remaking Halo: Combat Evolved in order to bolster the Halo franchise and provide an initial boost of momentum. The game's reception was positive; however, many were upset that online multiplayer was absent. The remake was solid, and 343i released Halo 4 roughly a year later. Success for 343i's first original Halo game was not fulfilled, evidenced by the exponential decrease in player population in less than a year. [Updated - Thanks to LordofSwagMirals]
To their credit, 343i listened to its fans and will soon release a game that contains a collection of Halo's 1-4, called the Master Chief Collection. Halo 2 has been graphically upgraded and improved in other areas such as the addition of online multiplayer co-op in the campaign. All of these Halo's will feature online competitive multiplayer. It is expected that this game will be successful. This is not the inherent problem with the future of Halo.
Will 343i be able to sustain the Halo franchise when they no longer can depend on remaking games developed by Bungie?
Halo 5 must bring innovation and balance in order for future Halo installments to thrive. If this game does not deliver, I believe that Halo will lose a significant amount of momentum. Because 343i does not have a reputable track record, I do not believe that it is justifiable to choose an Xbox One for Destiny and the future of Halo. On the Xbox One, individuals will have access to Halo and Destiny--the best of both worlds.
However, I believe Destiny will harbor longevity in its life-span. In contrast, Halo will experience short-term success with the MCC and lose steam with future, non-remake installments.
My predictions are based primarily upon my gameplay experience with Halo's 1-4, the Halo: CE remake, the Destiny Alpha, and the track records of Bungie and 343i.
Remember, this is just my opinion. Your perspective may be different. Destiny will be a great game on either system, but do you prefer Halo & Destiny or Destiny & Exclusive content? Let me know your reasoning in the comment section below!
*I highly respect all of my commentators, regardless of opinion. No matter what system you play Destiny on, the Bungie community is about unity and supporting fellow members. We are all on the same team.

Or you know, You could get an xbox one for destiny and not care about exclusives. Don't forget sunset overdrive /joy #shotsfired

Ps4: timed destiny content. Xbox one: gets halo mcc and the ps4 destiny content later on.
xbox wins
Wait no
gamers win
I think people are just being influenced a lot by that marketing strategy. Considering how big Destiny will be, that exclusive content is not even 2%, the only important things in that exclusive content are the 2 multiplayer maps and maybe the strike, but its a time exclusive and we will eventually get that content. So yeah, i prefer Destiny, Halo MCC and HALO 5 over Desinty+timed exclusive content.
-
In a perfect world I would have kept my Xbox one for halo and destiny.....BUT.....MS decided I was no longer their target audience, I was just a core gamer, thus I was less important. So I switched. I may eventually buy an Xbox One again IF Halo 5 turns out to be amazing but so far I doubt it. So now my hopes are for PS4 and Destiny to fill that void

Edited by nickpeck38: 7/14/2014 5:48:22 PMOr, none of that matters and you can just play and enjoy both because I know I will. How does 343 have a bad track record? They have done just fine as the remake was fantastic and H4 was a damn good game. Obviously H5 needs to do well for the series to move forward, but that goes for every franchise. As for the timed exclusive stuff? I could care less because there will be much more to do than to worry about a few skins and one level (that I played in alpha anyways so I won't miss it). Xbox is getting it later on anyways so I really do not see the issue, but I understand fantards need something to cry about to keep up their daily hate / complain quota. Also, are the track records what YOU think about the games? If so, that's completely subjective anyways, but it's your opinion and it's fine, but one opinion over another doesn't really = "truth". 343 has big shoes to fill and they will do it just fine, you need to give them some time. They have been listening to constructive criticism and will make any changes accordingly. Everything will be fine. Both games will sell a ton and be enjoyed by millions. Oh, I guess I support Halo and Destiny to answer that last question.

Been playing Halo for almost a decade now... Going to stick with the console that supports that addiction. And I will gladly take MCC over a few exclusive toys, like the two don't even compare lol. For those who made the switch you have my sympathies, MCC is going to be badass.
-
ill rather be able to play both and not have to choose
-
I want the MCC so badly!
-
I agree with the majority of your writing, however I believe the title is unfair. Comparing MCC to Destiny isn't all that fair. None of the games in the MCC were ever intended for next (or current I guess is what it is now) gen consoles, Destiny, however, is for the most part. So obviously compared to Destiny, it won't look as good. It'd be like comparing a slightly improved GTA San Andreas to GTAV. You just don't, well can't. They were made for two different generations of consoles.

It's good to see someone making valid points and not whining and complaining at the same time. We need more posts like this. If I read another whiny post about not getting "timed dlc" I'm gonna cry.
-
I want both. Halo 5 and Destiny. MCC is just for memories really.

Edited by ChewyNutCluster: 7/14/2014 1:29:10 PMI love Halo, but I do agree with most Halo fans that Halo 4 was a step in the wrong direction. I am extremely excited about the Master Chief collection and I can't imagine not being able to play it come November. I am a little more hyped for Destiny over the MCC due to it being an all new franchise, but I am really looking forward to playing them both. So, to answer your question, Halo and Destiny together is more important to me than the exclusive content for Destiny. In getting an Xbox One, I am able to play Destiny and the MCC, but also have the opportunity to follow Halo into the future. Although Halo 4 was not a great game, I am still cautiously optimistic about Halo 5 as 343 employees have been hinting highly towards a more competitive experience in their next game. I believe that Destiny won't be quite as competitive as Halo can be with the right settings due to all the customization and shorter kill times so Halo will be my hardcore competitive game when I want to be an XxMLGTryHardProxX and Destiny will just be my awesome all around Story/Co-op/Multiplayer game.

This was long post didn't read it all! But I like ps4 cause of exclusives like LBP, infamous, Uncharted, KillZone (sort of), and I really dig the indies. The exclusives here for PS aren't that fantastic! However, if PS4 continues to be Bungie's favorite child then I will be happy For those future exclusives!
-
Edited by FringedBard: 7/14/2014 11:50:37 AMso you're decision to get a PS4 over an Xbox is solely so that you get a crappy set of starter armour and weapons which will be obsolete after a couple levels a few months before xbox instead of 4 remastered games packaged into one? I don't really care what systems people go for, but thats one of the silliest reasons I've seen for someone picking one console over another
-
Since I own both it's not really an issue for me.
-
Well sir, I'll be going with Destiny and MCC. I won't make a decision based off timed exclusives unless its along the lines of: which store's time exclusive gear do I like the most? I really don't care for the PS4 controller (although I'm definitely hoping to win the PS4 destiny bundle) and can't afford both consoles at the moment. I really liked the old Halo games, the newest is getting a lot of flak that is motivated by questionable factors (in my opinion.) I have a friend in law school who is dying to play MCC and Destiny with me. Furthermore, my dad will never switch to a PS4 when he does get the new gen. As a result, I'll go with Xbox One when I upgrade for Destiny. I am a little shocked about the exclusives though. A lot of people have exaggerated it since day 1 (trolls or not), especially ignoring the "timed" factor. However, if it really includes multiple maps and not just the cosmetics of ship/gear/guns, I'm not a fan considering the length is until Fall 2015 (allegedly). The store exclusives never bothered me much since the internet makes it accessible to practically everyone, bundling it via platforms is another matter and not exactly admirable but it seems all platforms will negotiate this more and more regardless.
-
I'm excited for both and will play both. I liked Halo 4 for the exact reason many people seemed to hate it, it showed Master Chiefs human side for once. I look forward to Halo 5 showing more of his struggle with his humanity. I am also looking forward to spending the next ten years immersed in the universe of Destiny and fighting back the Darkness shoulder to shoulder with Gaurdians from around the world. I see no reason to quit one simply because I want to play the other.
-
I plan to get both and I plan to get Destiny on PS4 for the exclusive content but if I got it on Xbox one I couldn't care less about the exclusive content Destiny will look great on Xbox One and no matter what platform you play Destiny on you are a gamer and Bungie fan like me.
and I'm getting sick of the console wars for Destiny it is not needed
-
would I like, destiny and some exclusive guns, armor, a map and a strike, or destiny and pretty much every halo game yeah still don't regret my xbox purchase sorry sony

Edited by Nashtalia: 7/14/2014 4:26:18 AMno...yue.
on a serious note...i prefer N7... #massEffect but yeah...destiny fer me :)
Having already played every Halo game I will probably wait quite some time to pick up the MCC, Destiny is new and exciting, everything else will take a backseat to the Traveler.
-
Thanks to my two favorite games being on two different consoles I (soon) am getting a PS4 to propel my gaming life. Sadly of course because one console used to be how it was. Now you must own two for all the good stuff.
The mentality of some Xbox One owners suggests that they will play Destiny until the Master Chief Collection releases in November. Their gameplay investments will then be funneled into Halo's multiplayer
hehehe We will see how that works out, could be more than one of them will buy into Destiny and not make the jump out hehehe

I'll take getting 5 games, and little less content, to one game with a little more timed content. I plan to play both haloMCC, and Destiny, will depend which freinds are on. Most likely it will be haloMCC during the week, and Destiny on the weekends.

We shall see in December for the H5 beta. I'm too big of a fan to just switch to Destiny tho. I enjoyed H4, but hope they will fix ranks in H5. It really is an exciting time to see where Halo will go. I can't wait! :)
