There's a way I found to open jammed disk trays. Usually when you press the open button, there is a brief second of silence followed by a struggling mechanical whirr as the disk tray tries to open, then it stops and resets itself. I've found that if you get your nails under the disc tray and apply constant upward pressure, press the open tray button, wait for it to whirr for about a second and then promptly pull your fingers upward and away, the disc tray will instantly open. You have to get the timing just right for when you pull your hand away, but it works with my 5-year-old Xbox 360 and a few of my friends'.

Pretty much, except I usually take the face plate off too. Strangely, my disc tray is only stuck when there isn't a disc in it, I don't know why and more recently, a problem has started where it won't read games unless I open and close it a few times.

Ya I only have this problem withy Xbox 360 after 3 years. Already fixed it once but lasted 3 years and now it running down. I know they do it so we would have boughten their new Xbox 360s. But not I, I am emotionally attached to mine lol

  • While this helps, I've also found waiting helps. For whatever reason, my disk tray jams if I try to open it immediately after turning the system on, but if I wait 30 seconds it will open even without lifting it. I can't imagine why that is, other than the possibility that the motor driving it pulls from a capacitor which charges slower with repeated use.

  • Yeah this is exactly what I do except with a knife instead of my nails.
