14 RepliesPosted from another thread now that I got thinking about it. I'd also like to point something out here. Halo has always had "background" parralells. For example, the Ark sheltering all life in the galaxy from Halo's fire, a parralel to a tale in the bible. And there's a lot more examples out there as well. But, I was just musing about the ONI Spartan's name, and couldn't help but nostalgia back to an old show called Lost, with a particular character called Locke. Now, this character in itself had a lot of throwbacks and nods to a real life man called John Locke, a philosopher and physician. And then it hit me. What's MC's first name? John. What's ONI spartans? Locke. Put two and two together. See something yet? And, to go even further, I want you to read this quote from the wiki. "Locke's theory of mind is often cited as the origin of modern [u]conceptions of identity and the self[/u], figuring prominently in the work of later philosophers such as Hume, Rousseau, and Kant. Locke was the first to define the self through a continuity of consciousness. He postulated that, at birth, the mind was a blank slate or tabula rasa. Contrary to Cartesian philosophy based on pre-existing concepts, [u]he maintained that we are born without innate ideas, and that knowledge is instead determined only by experience derived from sense perception.[/u]" Now I want you to think about the opening words from the Arbiter in the trailer. I think we're definiately in for something interesting, at the very least.
