Concerns over my Destiny

I have great concerns over the enjoyment I will be able to achieve whilst playing Destiny,. My main concern is that my internet connection where I currently reside is roughly allowing me a download speed of 1 meg with upload of 600k mark. Safe to say that I won't be hosting anything for some time. I have be scouring the interent in search of information to ascertain if that speed will be sufficient to play the game in a fairly enjoyable way. Fortunately with the 10 year shelf life on Destiny I will more than likely have moved house once or possibly twice by that time and be in reciept of a decent connection, might even be as soon as the tail end of this year. So does anyone else have less than favourable connection speeds and how do you find playing games. So far I only have been playing rts and rpg games via my connection and with no really horrible lag issues nor ones that I can spot. Remembering back to my FPS days trying to shoot ghosts due to lag was frustrating, though I will endevour.

  • Sometimes I wonder what has a better internet connection... my modem/router VS a toaster

  • As I understand it (and I'm no expert), it all depends on how much data the game is trying to pass at once. Generally, multiplayer games are passing many small packets of data, so you don't need tremendous speeds to have an acceptable connection. Ping is generally more important, as determined by the distance the data has to travel to and from the server or host, as well as any bottlenecks the data encounters along the way.

  • Thanks chaps, I have played other fps on my current internet connection with no real dramas though for the destiny I will be upgrading to a xb1and unsure if all the extra quirks on the unit will have a dramatic impact. Considering what I've read about the game matching you up with chaps close by that hopefully will remove a lot of concerns. I read on one site to play xb live you need a min of 500k download speed but only time will tell I'm afraid. As for improving my speeds that would go hand in hand with a geographical move as I am already on an unlimited top broadband deal though given my distance from the exchange I get 1meg, though they claim I get 2-12. I wish.

  • Destiny wont have peer to peer hosting the way Halo did, so no worry's there about how you're connecting to other people. That said, you may want better internet if you're planning on enjoying this game for the next ten years.
