Career Interest

Hi I am 16 yrs young and very curious on how I could get to work at Bungie. I have a deep interest in gaming and learning how to make games. Only problem is I have no idea what courses I should take to reach my goal. If I could get some help on what courses are ahead of me in the future or what I should be taking now that would be so great!

  • There are many ways to become a game developer, and many of them do not necessarily involve any courses at all. Some make their way into the industry from their own work alone, but each case is different. When it comes down to it, some lectures here and there are quite useful. It all depends on what you want to do, and what you can do. You want to be a programmer? Network developer? Web designer/developer? Writer? Artist? There are so many jobs that a studio needs to have filled, and a quick regular glimpse over careers @ Bungie.net will give you a general idea how broad the expertise needed can be. So, very well, OP. You want to be a game developer, now, and truthfully, what aspect of a game would you think you can truly work with? Can you join up any game developer communities or clubs? Did you try to design your own games, or make any small game on your own yet?

  • A good place to start would probably be the "Breaking in" articles, where Deej interviews a Bungie employee about what they do at the studio, how they got there, and more personal questions such as interests and hobbies. Reading some of those might give you a better idea about what specific element of game development interests you most and possible paths by which to get there.

  • Ok here is how you can work at Bungie. You need to go to Washington and find Jerome and ask him to fight you 1v1 to the death and if you win (chances are like 1/over 9000) they give you Jerome's job and cower in fear...

    • First, be a bit more mature. You can't get a good job when you need to abbreviate years to yrs. Then if you are doing something for a job physically go to Seattle and wait for an opening :D

    • It depends on what kind of person you are. Are you an artistic person who likes to draw? If not, you could try programming. Go to codeacademy.com. This website will give you an idea of how coding for video games works.

    • If you want to do the art and designs of the game, go the graphic design route(Photoshop and Illustrator-eque stuff). If you want to write the story, creative writing. If you want to make the artists designs in the game, engineering/3D modeling.

What do you want to do? You could get into engineering, design, test, or production. What do you enjoy doing besides playing games?

      • You could maybe send a message to Bungie itself asking that same question. Make sure you it is a formal and has correct grammar.
