Playstation 4 just lost,
If anything, MS and consumers just lost.
MS lost because they spent the same amount of money as Sony on Kinect 1.0 only to have it bomb just as badly as Move. Arguably worse because Move's setup at least worked with a couple of big name FPSers.
With XB1 MS thought to break the cycle that left Kinect gathering dust by forcing everyone to get it, thus removing the hard choice that developers would have to make in developing for Kinect: Namely that the incredibly small install base with Kinect aren't going to buy many games, thus developers won't throw money at something they won't get a return out of, thus reaffirming people's decisions not to buy the Kinect because it doesn't have games and what games it does have are horrible.
For MS they just wasted a bunch of more money with Kinect 2.0 because they spent that time forcing the bundle and having it impact sales and now that they said they are going to ditch it. Their laying their DRM policies bare without offering the incredible sales that Steam's setup has really did them in and doomed Kinect 2.0 even more so.
For consumers there's nothing different about this console generation aside from UIs and upgraded specs. Nothing to push boundaries in new areas.
I suppose that trying to push the future as motion gaming was ultimately the problem though. This was MS and Sony trying to hop on the gravy train that was the Wii, after it already left the station, without understanding why the Wii sold so well. And it wasn't due to motion gaming.
Also: I just shit a brick and I bet none of you are going to read it or reply. Ungrateful -blam!-s.

Just because someone has a Kinect, doesn't mean they want to play motion games. Many people don't want them and they probably would still just be the gimmicky games not many people will buy, regardless of more people having Kinects.

Your pathession is obsetic, Methew.

Your obsession is pathetic.

Motion gaming has really just proven to be a fad though. Sure the Wii is still a thing, but in all honesty it doesn't offer much of anything. Most people who owned one used G-cube controllers whenever possible. The Wii, and subsequently the Wii U sold because they're Nintendo, and Nintendo's exclusives are usually a lot more exclusive that Sony's or M$'s.

I agree wholeheartedly. This was a bad move for MS. I can't help but feel like the downfall of Xbox is upon us (and by extension, Halo). Ultimately, MS needs to learn to stick to their guns. Don't half ass it and then copy your competitor's business model. That's not going to draw anyone to your console.

Really, I think it was a bad move for MS to even start down the motion gaming scene. It was an equally bad move for them to drop their DRM bomb and another bad move to not stick to their guns. That said, Kinect does have a wide array of possible uses, but they are all outside of gaming apparently.

Although the DRM stuff was stupid of MS, I think that they should've stuck with it. It would make it different from what we have now, and once they saw the sales start to falter, they'd adjust the policy to more acceptable terms. I really thought the instant game change feature was really cool. Yeah, it would be better if the Kinect actually had gaming purposes. I'd much rather them invest in some sort of gaming glasses or whatever for heads-up display. THAT would be a neat addition to the Xbox line. But this motion crap just isn't working for anybody.
Although the DRM stuff was stupid of MS,
It was stupid for MS to drop it, keep the few flaws that it has that separates it from Steam's setup, and not to up sell the incredibly deep discounts they could provide if games were a one time sale only.
I think that they should've stuck with it.
Really, I'm not sure developers would even do anything with the Kinect 2.0 with the XB1. With all the games coming down the pipe, Kinect isn't even considered in the design of the game. I wanted MS to stick with it so that developers could make the software that would provide compelling reason to get a Kinect. But they aren't. So I say there's no reason to keep digging at this point.
Yeah, it would be better if the Kinect actually had gaming purposes. If they had adopted the Steam policy, they'd probably be "winning" the console war right now. Kinect is a huge waste of time, the only thing that's interesting about it is skype chat (which is barely usable.)
