The War for Independence wasn't about Independence
The British wanted tea and the Colonials wanted coffee. Independence had little to do with it.

Fun Fact: The colonies would have never rebelled if the British Empire had given them representation in parliament. The taxes were fine, being treated like complete shit by the government and not being allowed to have any representation in it was what broke the camels back.
