I honestly don't understand why it's taking them so long to release the game or why they even announced it so far back. There were hints at Destiny in -blam!-ing Halo 3: ODST. That's a long ass time.

  • This game is blam huge I mean HUGE look at the leaked GDC footage from more console did u see that you customize your helmet piece. By piece and an open world your telling them to rush it no they are an amazing company and every hour they spend working on it polishes the game further

You having no idea how to make games is probably a major factor in your not understanding ... It's not easy and it takes a long time

I'm talking comparatively speaking. Most companies take 2 years and come out with great games.

  • Every game is different. 2 years is a really short time to make a game, and the ones that do take that long are usually full of bugs or completely lack innovation (e.g. battlefield 4, call of duty). Destiny is aiming to be full of innovation, and none of us wants bugs in it, so as far as I'm concerned they can take as long as they need. I wouldn't even be pissed if they pushed the release back. I'd be disappointed but also glad they didn't rush it like so many others do these days.

2 years is a standard video game development cycle. It's not considered a "short time" to make a video game. Short is one year. Taking 2 cycles and a half is A LOT. And tbh, I don't see all that much innovation in Destiny. It looks rather uninspired to me.

I think it's more that I want to believe you're a troll, more than I want to believe that a grown man could be so ignorant.
2 years is a standard video game development cycle. It's not considered a "short time" to make a video game. Short is one year. Taking 2 cycles and a half is A LOT.
Sure, for call of duty. Which is widely considered to have a short cycle. You're pulling this out of your ass, 3 is average, 2 is short, 1 is pretty much non-existent since the days of abes exoddus.
And tbh, I don't see all that much innovation in Destiny. It looks rather uninspired to me.
Innovation means doing things that haven't been done before. So either you don't understand what innovation is, or you don't understand what destiny are doing. You can say it's uninspired, but you can't say it's not innovative. Either way you're speaking from a place of ignorance, and in a manner which suggests you think of yourself as an authority on the subject. So these facts either mean that you're some ignorant man who's been on a games company forum for 6 years, and still hasn't learnt anything about games. Or you're a troll who's managed to salvage another reply from me. Either way I've got no more time for you.

  • Comparatively speaking, Destiny also aims to be lager than most games. The gap between Oblivion and Skyrim was 5 years. From what we can tell, Destiny aims to reach that level of content, so it makes sense it would take a similar amount of time.

  • We honestly don't have all that much information. To say it's going to be like Skyrim is a pretty big assumption.

  •
To say it's going to be like Skyrim is a pretty big assumption.
Not really. Bungie has made it clear from the start that they want Destiny to be a game you can come back to time and time again with something to do. That kind of replayability demands a vast amount of content. This assumption that Destiny will have Skyrim-like levels of content is backed up by the in-house tools that Bungie has designed to achieve this goal, such as Grognok and Mash Up.

  • Replayability isn't automatically tied to development time.

  • I never said it was. Anyway, it really hasn't taken that long for the game to come out. I'll admit they jumped the gun a bit on the timing of the announcement, but the average time for a game to be in development is 3-4 years. It makes sense that Destiny would be a little longer given that it's a new IP.

  •
why they even announced it so far back.
That would be my question. It's literally been over a year since they announced it, and news has just stopped coming out.
There were hints at Destiny in -blam!-ing Halo 3: ODST. That's a long ass time.
But who honestly thought "NEW BUNGIE GAME!" when they saw those posters?

  •
That would be my question. It's literally been over a year since they announced it, and news has just stopped coming out.
Doesn't make sense to me.
But who honestly thought "NEW BUNGIE GAME!" when they saw those posters?
It's more to say they were working on it since 2009. It's 2014 now and were gonna get the game almost in 2015. 5 years to work on something when it usually takes them 3 (which is a cycle and a half in the first place) is kinda ridiculous in my book.

It isn't really fair to hold it to the same release schedule to a bunch of linear shooters.
