Would a Black Superman Seem Odd?

In light of recent discussions regarding the ethnicity of the Human Torch, from Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four, I was curious as to what people would think of a black actor being cast as Superman. Now before I say anything else, I want to state that I have absolutely no problem with black characters or actors, as I can see this thread quickly turning into a "you're racist" flame war. Thus, I must remind participants to keep this discussion cordial. Now regarding a black Superman, allow me to set the conditions of the vote. We are not using comic book examples of a black Superman, as what looks good in a comic can look absolutely silly in a live action film (Batman's costume is an excellent example of this). Furthermore, alterations to Superman's costume will not be considered, as a change in palette can radically influence how a black Superman might look. Therefore, let's assume that the costume in question is the Man of Steel costume. Finally, I must once again ask participants to keep the discussion civil and cordial; no insults, allegations of racism, sexism, etc. Thank you for your time.

  • The whole black human torch thing never set well because it seems like a very obvious "Look guys, we're racially sensitive!" Black Spider Man? Sure. Black Superman? Sure. Black Batman? Why the hell not? Believe it or not, ethnicity does play a role in stories, like when people are brother and sister...

    • Exactly. It just wouldn't make sense unless he or his sister was adopted.

      • Which is quite a change in story just to make the character a different race. If it was originally meant to be that way, and maybe the racist 60s didn't allow it, sure, live your dreams Stan Lee, but if not -- They did a Hispanic Spider Man, and he is pretty awesome. The Human Torch isn't the only character in the Marvel Universe ...
