I think titanfall looks pretty cool so far. My one complaint though is that I think the pilots need more health. One shotting players (or grunts) isn't as satisfying in my opinion as having a drawn out fight where tactical decisions can be the deciding factor. I think even in call of duty there is longer time to kill on average than in this game.
It's the complete opposite when fighting titan v titan. You move slowly, have a lot of health, and have several tricks you can use to turn the tide. You have to duck behind buildings, play ping pong with the vortex shield, all while making your primary and secondary shots count. And on top of all that, you can even get boosts to damage for a short time. If fighting pilot on pilot had as many decisions to make as fighting with titans does, this game would BURY every other shooter available.
Sure, you can play cat and mouse with the wall running, and maybe throw a stun grenade every so often, but the maps are so big and have so many routes through them that I haven't seen any resemblance of tactical control of a map in my time playing. If they had a game mode with smaller maps and more pilots(not grunts), I'd really enjoy it. I saw they had a titan-only mode, but no pilot-only mode. This is somewhat surprising because pilots have a lot of potential for interesting encounters if the titans aren't there. It would be more like call of duty, but the added acrobatics would make it a completely different game already, not even counting the special abilities like cloaking and stuff.
Also, I'm pretty bummed that there isn't a single player, because the tutorial levels set it up for one so well that it felt like something was missing being multiplayer only.
And grunts. Get rid of them, make them smarter, or use them in more moderation, because what they are now contributes little to the game. If anything, make at least a third of the active entities on the battlefield real players, because grunt hunting gets old and adds that casual feel that's making everyone complain about the game.
TL;DR: Titanfall seems like a good game, but there is much room for even more improvement.

I do like your thought on pilot v pilot and titan v titan.....it gives me an idea for Halo in fact, what if you combine the two kill times for both pilot and titan and maybe, possibly have that as the kill time and variety for spartans (other player like characters as well, elites, prometheans) But I got the memo at the end, and yes, titty-fail is based on casual play, it's noob friendly

adding health to create drawn out fights in a game where the players move as fast as they do in titanfall? no, that sounds awful. the pilot vs pilot gameplay is supposed to contrast the titan vs titan. asymmetric gameplay mechanics are what make this game interesting. grunts aren't there for no reason, they serve a similar role to minions in moba games, a resource the player takes advantage of. killing grunts (or generally earning points) shaves time off your titan arrival, and titans are vital to winning the game.
-
True, I do like the asymmetrical aspect of the game
-
Fair point about the minions, but even if it's not adding more health, I'd like to see more decisions made per fight. Right now it just feels like a quick draw contest and there isn't much to mix it up, so most pilot fights feel the same whereas Titan fights can go a lot of different ways. Maybe more health and less speed would force players to move more strategically, or perhaps instead the use of more in-the-moment powers like the damage boost on titans. Or even better, abilities that act as area control. There's a lot they could do to make pilot fights less homogenous.

PVP kill times in Titanfall are longer than in Call of Duty, judging from my experience (unless you get headshots that is of course).
-
It seems like the actual guns do about the same damage. I normally use shotgun so it's just one shot usually, but what makes average kill time faster is the inability to effectively take cover. Why bother hiding when you can just fly over the other guy?
-
about the grunts, why do you "grunt hunt"? ive been ignoring them for the most part, they dont give many points and distract you from enemy pilots
-
You can turn the tide of a match if one guy kills all the grunts. I mean, my bro went at it the other day with a smart pistol and killed 50 of them in one match. That's not only points for the team, but it's less grunts that will get to shoot at friendly pilots or damage titans.
-
except they do almost zero damage to enemy pilots or titans, and 50 grunt kills is worth less than 5 pilot kills
-
Even so, you'd agree that they add little to the game as they are now, right?
-
They help with map control, grunts spawn near enemy pilots. You can tell if a pilots in the area when a grunt drop pod comes crashing down
-
Well, you can also tell where a pilot is by the dark red dots on the map, and as they don't do much damage, they aren't exactly controlling as much as just existing. But hey, if you like the grunts that's fine. I just don't think they add anything that isn't already there.
-
Maybe that's the point of grunts? I don't know. This game seems like a confused teen that doesn't know what to do with it's life. Much like the target market, I'd imagine.

Just remember it's a beta
