Well for one our history is filled with racial tension. The civil war for one. But also minorities are different. Something 70% of all crime in America is done by minorities. So people can be prejudice. Many minorities can also take anything as racist, like in this article.

This country also has had a history of racial tension, especially with an empire. I doubt that 70% of all crime is committed by minorities, and most people would not racism in such trivial ways.
