Okay, everybody clicked on this thread hoping to read an idea that will boost their excitement for Destiny, so that is what I will present to you It will be an amazing feature if your Guardians armor, clothes and weapons start to crack, rip and develop scratches on them as you use them overtime. For example, its September 9th and everybody sets off on their journey, you find a nice combination of armor, clothes and weapons and you put them on and go on with your adventure fighting a number of PvE and PvP battles. Your good at protecting your head because you know how to move but you are not so good at protecting your body. Overtime you will start to see the armor on your body start to have cracks and scratches on it and etc. You get the point right? This will not affect gameplay at all for it is only an appearance purpose to show that you have been putting in hard work and you have been through hell and back, also the process of getting the damaged look is slow but not too slow. You have to play several games and get into several battles to even start noticing little scratch marks so it wont be a hassle or a chore to repair/renew your equipment; it wont bother you every 5 minutes or so. Your equipment will not break or fall off because, like I said, this is only for appearance purposes only. You can pay a small amount of glimmers to renew/repair your armor to make it look new again, or you can leave it to make yourself look more badass (like having a ripped up cape for your hunter). Also, you can repair each equipment separately, so you can decide to fix you helmet but leave your cape ripped up. Bungie said Destiny is about telling your story and where you have been and what you have been through, so I don't seen any reason they wouldn't add this feature. Comment below and tell me what you guys think. Keep this thread live so comment below!

  • Your idea is good actually I really hope that its implanted in the game. BUT I got some things I want to tweak to make it more personal to each player. 1. While I like my armor I want it to be damaged and bad ass but not all the time. Say I found golden armor and don't want it damaged I just use some glimmer and by "scratch be gone" which makes your armor take no damage unless removed. This would only have to be bought once and can be applied to any armor/ decoration piece. 2. Since the armor can be scratched why not in grave it with stuff. While at the tower you could get a hammer and a nail and in grave a message of your picking. Besides my tweaks I loved the idea and think it had a good chance of making it in the game.

I'd rather have some medals I'm able to pin to my armor after finishing hard missions/raids/battles. Something like that...

  • It should be an option in the menu you can turn on and off. Like if I wanted my armor to aesthetically be worn out, I can turn the option on. But if I change my mind, I can turn the option off and have my armor look like new. If I want the effect again, I would just turn the option on and start over.

    • I agree with your idea of weathered armor, but it shouldn't be relegated to a shot-by-shot, or individual damage basis. I'd say, maybe graded by difficulty of missions you accomplish. If you set the game to 'normal' and purely blast through the campaign, you shouldn't really receive much damage to your armor. For the true Guardians putting in the work on 4 hour Raids to earn a truly rare exotic, they have EARNED their stripes. Or... battle scars in this case. Nice idea though. We'll see.

      • This is only one of the best ideas in history coming from a fan to bungie. This will make your appearance only a thousand times more badass to show what you've been through.

      • Now, Destiny is the exact example of what will happen to future gaming. All online. Only single player. They will force us to buy multiple televisions, consoles, and disks in order to play with our friends and families. This is the future. They will begin to leave last-gen consoles behind, and nothing will be in their way. We may be gamers, but truly, we have no power on our own. We need to band together, and bring the fight to them! • I WOULD LOVE THIS. If it was aesthetical only, YES. Have the paint wear off over time, give yourself a battle worn look like Chief had in H3.. yes plz

            • My first reaction was, "Hmm...", which quickly became, "I would hate this!" But with the addition of being able to repair your equipment (hopefully for almost virtually nothing), and the armor degradation being purely aesthetic with no statistic consequences, I would be open to this feature. It fits in well with the "Your gear tells your story" thing that Destiny has going for it.

            • I like this, but this close to release... It probably won't be put in. They would need to go in and look at each model for each class and all the pieces of armor so that way they could put cracks in places where movement won't warp the scratch/dent/crack. But have faith for the next three destiny games. Just like they did for the halo series. If you look at that from halo 2- 3 his mark VI armor is brand new then has scuffs scratches and dents. Keep this alive for future Destiny games!
