I generally use "WoT" or "Web of Trust" to avoid bad sites. It's an add on where everybody rates the trustworthiness of the site. I'd imagine they would respond with what's what. :)

Though the inherent problem with WOT and others is that it can't see what's going on behind the scenes. It can't tell you that your data is being encrypted or that your passwords have been properly hashed. It's really only limited to what you see on the web page itself, which is not a bad thing at all (I'm using WOT too!).
