Forever and a day ago (July, 2013) I posted this easily missed/overlooked E3 interview with Harold Ryan. It was my first post on this forum.
Since it offers some insight into the potential of player counts, I decided to resurrect it.
Enjoy.

I still don't quite understand player counts. So me and my group of 5 friends are in an area with a population cap of 6 and can't move into another area because its cap is 3? Or was population cap meant just for all the players in a public area?

Edited by FairlySplendid: 1/9/2014 10:16:50 PMI little a both, is my best guess. - Public events will vary in size. That's what he was saying in the interview. - Certain modes will have specific player-count caps. Some higher, some lower. - Presumably when you reach an activity where your party is too big, the game will ask you to spilt up and/or do it for you automatically. - Public event designers definitely take these type of things into consideration and try to avoid the obvious pitfalls and potential issues. It's also important to mention that this interview is pretty old. Since E3 they have confirmed that the basic fireteam is made up of 3 players. Which most directly affects party size in story-missions. Strikes and raids are a completely different beast.

True. So this must be for like quest-like stuff not just you and your buds roaming an open area, assuming there is any. And since this interview I guess Bungie has also talked about their "mesh network" controlling the number of players in each area. That way, no matter where you go it's reasonably populated.

I was a wee little lad back then, still wet behind the ears. So young, so naive.

Yep, my old Hunter avatar that I rocked for almost a year. I retired it when I realized I was going to ultimately try (and run) all three classes.
