Cool concept, I really like the idea of allowing an increase in power of a gun you want to hang on to, whether it's for the look or the story. Although I have a feeling (speculation here) Bungie wants competitive gameplay to be easily/unconsciously clear. Meaning that from the distinct silhouettes of classes and guns to the textures of armors and weapons, in the vast sea of customization options there will be tactical clarity afforded to the experienced player. I might be completely wrong on this, (again, I really like the idea a lot) Hunter's capes (and everything else down to gloves) might be completely customizable unless they're Legendary. But in order to translate to competitive play in an ordered fashion, I'm not sure to what extent this is possible. That being said, I'm a downer, I know; I think it should be implemented because my entire argument is literally based on completely unconfirmed speculation. Great idea, I hope they do it. I love the idea of toting some 'ancient' looking handgun or rifle that is just as powerful as it's next-door-neighbor but has no arcane energy rippling across it until it's fired or primed or what have you. Could be amazing in 'campaign' if they can't do it in multiplayer.

Well multiplayer and campaign have the same weapons/armor that has been confirmed And you probably will have weapon shops in game . My concept does not allow you to change your weapons damage to your liking, but instead to mach the par at which your gun would be at your level Example you have a level 7 SilverDollar shotgun You yourself are a level 12 and your shotgun is out of date Youve found other shotguns but they aren't the same, they are over under, or maby don't have the accuracy your level seven had though they have a more recent damage output What my system does is allows one weapon to be maintained to your level for a large fee making your level 7 silverdollar into a level 12 And to change its appearance also fir a fee And just an idea, ad some special stats that you must find.
Well multiplayer and campaign have the same weapons/armor that has been confirmed And you probably will have weapon shops in game .
Right, I was saying that only keeping Legacy weapons exclusive to 'campaign' could allow your concept to work if my suppositions of Bungie's customization implementation are correct. Otherwise you could see someone in PvP with that Silver Dollar lookalike punching holes in titanium-a armor. Surprising, to say the least.
My concept dose not allow you to change your weapons damage to your liking, but instead to mach the par at which your gun would be at your level
That's what I meant by next-door-neighbor (whatever you fancy keeping in your top tier weapon slots). Sorry about the on the fly colloquialism. They're catchin' on, I tell yer!

  • Well have you played borderlands? You see the same gun repeatedly, different in appearance but at different levels

  • No but I'm aware of the enormous weapon generator that it uses. My point is that there are two dependent possibilities we should consider here: A) Every weapon may or may not be on the same scale as each other. Once they're fully upgraded, the skillset of a particular weapon you encounter early in the game may or may not be different from yet on par with one (possibly a Legendary) you find much later on. B) Enermy difficulty may not change with level / weapon power may not change with level. Then there's the factor that we aren't even thinking of because we personally haven't been in the know on Destiny for last 5 years or whatever it is. Which directly relates to the conclusion: to bring a higher level weapon to bear against lower level players in PvP would be kind of aggravating for the lower end of the spectrum. That being said we have no idea how matchmaking will work and whether it will actively incorporate rank or simply team balance. Did Borderlands' PvP include level based weapon damage or were the players' weapon levels not functional in PvP?

You bring up a good point, I only considered if Destiny being an RPG fallowed usual RPG formula. But true it could have same level baddies with no actual level more like a standard shooter. Though I do think there are levels above enemies heads during the E3 demo weren't there? Borderlands PVP Was namely level based victory as most mmo rpgs tend to go. Players would have to agree to the fight. There were also classes cheeper for pvp gameplay
Enermy

Though I do think there are levels above enemies heads during the E3 demo weren't there?
Wow, thanks for jumpstarting my brain. Yeah, although that could be just to mark slight differences to influence strategy, I feel we'll be forced to throw a decent amount of weapons away over the course of the game due to enemies (I almost spelt it with an r again) leveling with us. If that's the case I'm interested to see whether lower level players can join in higher level missions and select an option to scale enemy levels or whether enemy levels are entirely independent of player level. They did say they were playing on a "deathless" difficulty setting in that demo, what that means for the above remains to be seen though. Possibly a multitude of XP dependent difficulty and scale settings? Borderlands PvP I really see problems arising if that is to be the case in Destiny. This thread reminded me of the secret area in Ratchet & Clank where you could experiment with the different weapon effects.

  • Lol love insomniac museums, wonder if there newer franchises have museums in them? Hmm well Borderlands 2 upped enemy levels upon party sizes, on the fly, with there drop in drop out co-op system And I to hope for a fairer multiplayer experience time will tell. But so far the Powershot special from the hunter is looking really cheep, lets hope thats due to low level difficulty to show off gameplay

  •
Lol love insomniac museums, wonder if there newer franchises have museums in them?
If only there was time enough to find out.
But so far the Powershot special from the hunter is looking really cheep, lets hope thats due to low level difficulty to show off gameplay
That pretty much sums it up for me, as cheesy as it might sound, I have complete faith in Bungie to make a kickass game with amazing core gameplay permeating the entire experience. So, while all these questions arise when us pinheads come up with something cool and try to work into the concept that we have of the game, we're working on hypotheticals at this point. I'm positive Bungie has some -blam!-ing amazing solution to these weird (mostly hypotheitical, truth be told) snags we're hitting. Translation: I'm smarter than the entire whole of Bungie and if they would just return my phone calls, emails, letters, and constant faxes- I could really help them get Destiny off the ground. God knows they need it!

  • I can tell. I hear that, it certainly keeps me busy. This is a really awesome idea, I hope they thought about this and if they haven't I hope they see this and do.
