I believe Adam hits the issue right on point. There's been a flair of this debate going on and really it boils down to the "next gen" having this standard of "1080p 60FPS" rather than revolutionizing games, features, or the way we play.
It's definitely something to think about. Is this a "standard" we're all going to follow religiously?

1080p shouldn't be difficult to reach now These consoles don't feel so much as "next-gen" as I'd like them to
-
Playstation fanboys like starting resolution pissing matches because that's really all they have.... pretty looking games. If my consoles was filled with boring games that looked fantastic I'd probably be doing the same thing.

No. It shouldn't be the end all be all. On a spec sheet, the PS4 is the more powerful machine. Should this matter? No. Get the system that you want for the reasons you want (friends, investment in ecosystem, online ecosystem, exclusives, perceived value, etc.) and stop giving a shit about what other people want. However, I will say that it is more than a little hypocritical of Sess to downplay the issue ("uprezzed 1080p") when earlier this year he said 1080p should be expected.

The resolution are the aesthetics. Is this guy a moron? Higher resolution increases color and pixel diversity making pictures more lively and accurate. The resolution makes everything in the distance clearer cleaner! The resolution makes all the textures sharper and more detailed! Holy shit even for artsy games HD resolutions are helpful. Go play the wind waker HD so much better than the old wind waker. 60fps just means the gameplay will feel better be more responsive. Why wouldn't that be something you want? Revolutions in gaming? All last gen we had HUGE advancements! These take lots of time! Over the course of all those years we saw HUGE steps in AI and HUGE steps in story telling and HUGE steps in making lifelike characters. Stuff that's still barely being used and was being held back by older tech. You now have to let developers get used to making Last of us quality character interaction before they can make the next jump already.

Edited by Ape One: 11/13/2013 3:05:32 PMThink of the 2 systems like the are 2 people that u are into. Sure it would be cool to pick one over the other; but having your way with both would be pretty fun.

In the grand scheme of gaming, it's not massively important. But it's a nice little upgrade that would be good to see becoming widely used. Just because we've already had the biggest jumps ever to photorealism in 3D and more recently HD gaming, doesn't mean the industry should rest on its laurels. Bring on 4K native, I say.

I think a lot of people forgot that games are supposed to be fun and not a spec and resolution pissing match
-
It's pathetic how people only seem to care about their graphics and fps, they don't care about the games anymore. It's all about graphics and fps, so idiotic.
-
Oh no! A minuscule change you hardly take notice of in damn near most games!
-
I'll take new revolutionary ways of playing games over 1080p any day

relliK, why do you make so much sense?
