Well apparently if we dabble into the dark arts we find that in The Necronomicon by Simon, Asaru is one of the Fifty Names of Marduk. And this is a quote from the text: "The Tenth Name is ASARU ..This Power has knowledge of all plants and trees, and can make marvellous fruits to grow in the desert places, and no land is a waste to him. He is truly the Protector of the Bounty." And this is the description of the Traveler, the protector of the Last City: "Everything changed with the arrival of the Traveler. Long ago, it breathed new life into our system and began our Golden Age. But it did not last. Something hit us. Knocked us down. Tried to stamp us out. No one knows exactly what, but we do know this: very few of us survived, and those who did owe their lives to the Traveler. Also the concept art depicts a winged character. Above is a picture of Marduk (remember Asaru is one of his 50 names). So there is another relation. Also the Marduk Wiki is an interesting read. Especially the Marduk Prophecy.

 • So maybe Asaru are Angel analogues? Did I read that right?

 • Well in the Marduk Wiki they make mention of the Marduk Idol, which might be like the Traveler. I'm not sure if I totally understand it but from what I can tell the idol was originally in Babylon, but it was stolen and everywhere the idol went, it brought great things. But it left Babylon in chaos. Apparently one place it went was Elam and Marduk (Asaru) promised to return one day to Babylon and restore the city but also lay waste to the Elamites. If we can connect that to the story of Destiny, maybe the Asaru are the owners of the Traveler. Maybe we stole it, maybe the Hive stole it and brought it to our solar system? So the Asaru are coming to retrieve the Traveler and use it to revitalize their city. Then lay waste to us or whoever they presume took it. Just an idea. But that doesn't answer what killed us all off in the first place. And why the Traveler would protect us. Any thoughts?
