The value of the dollar decreases by a lot, meaning our economy is essentially shot. More than that, in order to keep the country running, the government borrows money. They do this by selling off government bonds to organizations and companies, essentially an IOU. Even more than that, the US dollar is more or less the world currency, a lot of business is done with USD. In other words, for every US dollar the government spends, they owe 19 cents of it to someone else, which is where debt accrues. I'm paraphrasing a lot here, but that's the basic gist of it. So if they default, that means they can't pay off debts, and the value of the US dollar decreases making it an undesirable currency for world trade. It also means we don't have a lot of money to run the country off. Basically our economy wouldn't be in a very good state. It also would not be local to just the United States, we would take down a few other people if we were to default, it's kind of comparable to the beginning of the recession, it didn't just effect the United States, it had a terrible effect on countries around the world. That's the gist of it, if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will correct me. I don't want to say it's the end of the world, but we would all be in a very rough spot if it were to happen. I have hard time straying from the thought that we should just let it happen. The world powers have been toying with our livelihoods to make a point for so long, let them burn in their own mistakes. It would be at the cost of a lot of people, but I don't see there being an end to the cycle without them screwing up everything and paying for their incompetence. I do want to say that both parties have been doing this ever since the debt ceiling was a thing, obviously this case is a bit more severe considering we're so close to the deadline, but I also don't want to use fear to make a point like so many people do. The situation we're in isn't new necessarily, but the circumstances are a bit different.

This. But want to see it burn cause of curiosity and how this will make the whole world a ripe field for success. And a new age will begin around the world. The next economy will also be interesting to see what it relies on.

Essentially. I'm mostly in a position where I've spent way too much time trying to fight it. I've done a lot more than most people have been willing to (yes, feed my ego). Not a lot of people in office are willing to change, and a lot of Americans aren't willing to put forth the work to change how things are run. So, pride aside, I've given up. I'm no more important than the person next to me, but if the person next to me fails to care then no momentum builds, and we stick to the same cycle of bullcrap politics taking place in our country. I've resigned any care I used to dedicate towards fighting for better policies, because it's not like anyone important in office is listening to us anyways. The most I've ever gotten from a current member in congress is an automated response. Aside from that, I've met a lot of former congressmen/women as well as former mayors. They're the ones who want to make real change because they're no longer jaded by stupid illusions of "how we do things in this country", or pressure by colleagues. The majority of people in office currently are control freaks, on both sides of the stadium. They don't want to resign control, so the only option I see is we let them control themselves into the ground. They're not going to stop what they're doing because of what you or I think. We've even seen a massive drop in public support, yet they feel like what they're doing is so important that if they win, then their ratings will go back up. In reality, the public is looking at them like they're idiots and they just don't see it. I don't want to see the way we do things crash, but I also don't see a way out of the situation without making a sacrifice no one wants to make. But again, I'm not an economist so I lack the complete knowledge to see another way out. If there is another way, no one's been bold enough to step forward with the information, or they haven't been heard appropriately.

  • Sadly many must be sacrificed to fix the few.

  • I kind of seeing it as evening out the play-field. If everyone's on the same level, they have to work together in order to rebuild. Our current problem is no one wants to work together, we've hit a point where we've established polar opposites that can't attract to anything. Again, both parties are guilty of this, so if anyone comes in saying "Hue typical lib blaming gop for everything" I will verbally smack you.
