I find it upsetting when people say that Superman is unrelatable. When a character who does good simply because he is a good person is considered unrelatable, what does that say about us?

I don't really think it's that- it's just that people seem to think that Superman is some kind of all powerful god that is everywhere and can do anything. And they fail to realize that when they're looking at the man in the suit that he transforms into, he is absolutely one of us. Ironically, like how Clark is somehow the perfect disguise for Kal the characters in his stories, Kal is somehow the perfect disguise for Clark to us.

  • To be fair, Superman can get really close to that line. People will probably say they can relate more to Iron Man or Batman because they are humans and have problems just like us. But Superman has those problems too. Just because you can bench press the Earth doesn't mean your life is perfect. You could say that Superman is more relatable than Iron Man or Batman. Because when Superman gets out of his suit, he is a regular person working a regular job with regular friends and regular problems. When Batman gets out of his suit, he is a fabulously wealthy CEO cooped up in a mansion with no one to talk to except Alfred and whichever Batfamily members he hasn't already pissed off that day.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Superman is 100% one of us when he's Clark Kent. Perhaps he's not a human, and perhaps he never will be. But the fact that he strives to become one gives him humanity, and that makes him one of us. It's funny, I just thought of Supes and Clark walking towards each other, both striving to be human yet giving humanity something to strive to himself. Is that what keeps Superman ticking? The fact that, in a twisted way, he is his own inspiration, and he doesn't realize it?
