We need to Acknowledge something about the Steam Controller...

If it was made by ANY other company, it would be universally hated and called things like gimmicky, stupid, and unnecessary. Let's take a moment to realize how high of a pedestal we place Gaben and Friends on, as well as how willing we are to put other people/groups/companies down without a second though.

  • We will just have to see how it plays out. People can go on and on how it will suck, but we don't know until people have had their hands on it and talk about it. This design has not been done before(that i know of) so of course its going to get some flack from people that expected a copy of current console controllers. I think they got some balls for throwing out the sticks. And if my hypothesis* is correct, i think it will be a pretty cool device. *Since the track pads have 3 ring like layers, i believe the farther from the center we go, the higher the sensitivity will be in game. Say for a FPS. Keeping the finger in the middle circle will allow the camera to linger in the players view, putting pressure to the left or right will slightly move the camera in that direction. If when the player decides to look around, they will just move their finger onto the 2nd ring in the direction they want to look, and the camera moves more quicker than it would if held in the center circle. And as for the 3rd ring, that would be when the high sensitive twitch comes to play. Same for the other trackpad. Keeping it in the center can allow walking, running, sprinting (depending if the game allows different speeds). My 2 cents.
